Pulling into a remote gas station somewhere near the Grand Canyon, Devin Booker spotted a man few people get to see up close. A fluffy white beard draws your eyes before anything, a cue to understanding the man known as the “Master of Light.” He was about to show Booker a place far removed from the reality the Suns star knew, where the noise of life in the NBA gives way to solitude. “He looked like Santa Claus in real life,” Booker remembers. “He was in his Jeep, right before you hit the dirt road. We just followed his truck all the way out there.”

Anthony appeared at the Flatiron District for an event promoted by Jeep and Team USA. Fans were shooting free throws in drizzle and wind for a chance to win the grand prize – a trip to Las Vegas for a Team USA exhibition game. The London Olympics will take up a large portion of Anthony’s plate this summer. But he welcomes the event. “I look forward to that just from the simple fact that it takes away time that I can sit home and keep reflecting on the past season. I don’t want to think about that. I’m trying to move on from that, trying to get better for next season. The Olympics, it will ease my pain a little bit,” Anthony said.
It remains to be seen how the roster will be finalized on June 1, including whether Lakers center Andrew Bynum could team up with Kobe Bryant. Such a pairing would be tantalizing considering it could set up a rematch against Laker teammate Pau Gasol with the Spanish national team, which lost to the U.S. in the 2008 gold-medal game. But Colangelo remained noncommittal on evaluating Bynum's chances. "I haven't heard specifically from he or his people," Colangelo said Friday at Annenberg Community Beach in Santa Monica at a USA Basketball event hosted by Jeep. "We haven't reached out to anyone. Nor will we until we have this meeting. I can tell you this morning I've had calls from players and agents that they want to participate and would be more than happy to join in at this point. We'll look at all those possibilities and we'll find out if there's interest before we extend any invitation."
