GY: That was my situation. I had Marcus Morris, Aron Baynes, and Al Horford in front of me. Those guys have been around in the league for so long and they’re experienced players. I couldn’t take it the wrong way, saying, “Oh, I should have been in front of him.” No, that’s not true. I was really just hoping that the situation could be a little bit different, maybe that they can use the bench a little bit more, playing me and a couple of the guys that were there. It was like this. And then, I played through it. And even though I was not with Boston anymore, I learned so much from that season. And it helped me for the second part of my career after that. It really pushed me. It really, like, I had that mentality of loving that basketball. Because I know I love basketball. But if you’re in a situation that you don’t play, it’s hard. I missed it. And I was like, you know what? I want to play now. I want to be somewhere where I always play, so I always try to pick the right situation now for me.
Tom Hersz: Aron Baynes has retired from professional basketball per his agent, Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports. Baynes retires an NBA Champion, a three-time Olympian and an Olympic Bronze medalist. One of Australia’s best ever big men. Congrats Banger!!
The boy from Mareeba! Representing you for your entire career has been the honor of a lifetime. You embody everything we teach young athletes about professionalism, dedication and playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not on the back.

Aron Baynes has left the door open on continuing his playing career. The Australian big-man didn't sign with an NBL team for the 2024-25 season, leading to a wide-spread assumption around the league that he would bring his playing career to an end. "I'm not labelling anything," Baynes told ESPN on Thursday. "My body feels good. I love playing the game. It's just, right now, I'm focused on my family and being there with my kids. Just being dad right now. Just enjoying not having to be anywhere at any particular time, apart from school drop off and school pickup.
Aron Baynes got into multiple conflicts during a game in the Australian Basketball League (NBL). He will face the federation (Basketball Australia) tribunal to determine the punishment. Baynes, who plays for the Brisbane Bullets, played against the Cairns Taipans. With under a minute left in the second quarter, the 36-year-old center got into a conflict with Taipans' Lat Mayen.
The NBL is investigating an alleged physical altercation between Aron Baynes and Cairns Taipans head coach Adam Forde, sources told ESPN. The alleged incident occurred at halftime of the Brisbane Bullets' Saturday evening game against the Taipans, sources said, shortly after an on-court incident led to Baynes having to be separated from referees.

Aron Baynes, who spent more than a year without basketball due to a severe setback, returned to the court. Baynes signed a two-year contract with the Australian team, Brisbane Bullets, this off-season and played his first match on Sunday. The Bullets defeated the New Zealand Breakers, 81-69 (18-28, 25-9, 19-16, 19-16). Baynes spent 13 minutes on the floor and registered 14 points (4/6 2PT, 1/4 3PT, 3/4 FT), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 15 PIR.
All's well that ends well. Baynes fully recovered and was delighted with the opportunity to play basketball again. "There were a lot of months when I didn't know if I would ever run around with my kids let alone, get to run around the court again," Baynes said post-game. "A lot of emotions today, so much fun: a kid in a candy store. Just loving it, having blast out there with the fellows. I am trying to enjoy every second of it.

The Brisbane Bullets have continued their roster transformation, announcing the signing of import guard Tyler Johnson. Johnson’s arrival comes just two days after the Bullets locked in Australian star Aron Baynes,.
Johnson, who spent time with Baynes at the Phoenix Suns, said he was excited to get started. “After having a great conversation with JD (Duncan) and Sam, I was excited about the direction they are taking this team,” he said. “I have heard so many good things about the NBL and want to be a part of growing this league.”

“We’ve seen time and time again, players using the NBL as a springboard to get into, or back into, the NBA,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said. “This signing is further evidence of the recognition of the NBL’s strong standing in world basketball as a legitimate and proven pathway to the NBA.”
“The world will be watching his comeback through the NBL and we believe signing with the Bullets gives Aron the best chance at returning to the NBA. Our season enables Aron to progressively work back into shape and be primed for the end of the NBL season, which coincides with the final stages of the NBA season."
