John Erickson, who served as executive director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletics and later as director of basketball operations and assistant commissioner for the Big Eight conference in Kansas City, died Wednesday. He was 92.

The Summerfield product, who now lives in Ruston, could have taken care of his public responsibilities with a half-hour press conference, allowing the out-of-town media to dial in with questions. It would have been over and done with quickly and everyone would have been happy. Malone may be getting some bad advice about what to do or not to do. By all accounts, he isn't a bad guy, although we were told this week that he refused to sign a Hall of Fame jersey for a Fellowship of Christian Athletes fundraiser because he wasn't in the Hall yet. We would have asked him about that had he been willing to talk.
