The San Antonio Spurs and USAA are joining forces once again to honor active duty, National Guard and reserve, and retired servicemembers during a Veterans Day game on Wednesday, November 10, as the Silver and Black host the Sacramento Kings at the AT&T Center. The 2021-22 season marks the 12th season that USAA and the Spurs have teamed up to honor the military community.
The San Antonio Spurs will wear military-themed camouflage jerseys in honor of active duty and retired military members when they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Military Appreciation Night, presented by USAA, on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Center. The evening will commemorate those who serve and have served in the United States Armed Forces, especially the military families stationed in San Antonio. Leading up to the game USAA will host a Spurs Training Camp with 50 military members from local bases on Wednesday, March 22 at the AT&T Center. The group will run practice drills led by Spurs assistant coaches Ime Udoka and James Borrego before participating in a scrimmage and meeting with Spurs guard Danny Green. On Tuesday, March 14 Spurs guard-forward Kyle Anderson became an airman for a day when visited Air Force troops in training at Camp Bullis.
Flanagan joins the Bucks after most recently serving as the Director of Sport Science and the Director of High Performance for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA). In his new role, Flanagan will oversee the physical preparation, sports medicine, sports technology and software development, sports physiology, performance analytics, dietetics, sports psychology, anticipation training and player wellness programs for the Bucks. A licensed sports physiologist with additional background in sports technology development, including a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, Flanagan has over 20 years of experience working with professional athletes in the United States and Australia. During his eight years with the USSA, Flanagan oversaw the sport science and high performance services for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams at both the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Flanagan also spent 14 years as a sport scientist in the innovative sports institute program in Australia (primarily at the Victorian Institute of Sport), which is responsible for preparing the Australian Olympic team.
Accompanied by some Silver Dancers and the Coyote — and a choral group from USAA that sang the national anthem — Robinson and his entourage filled the cafeteria with Spurs fans who live and work at the campus, a non-profit dedicated to transforming the lives of San Antonio’s homeless.
