The NBA cadre spent evenings exploring the nearby beach town of Fuengirola, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea on Spain’s famed Costa del Sol. Branham, a native of Columbus, Ohio, immersed himself in the local food and culture of the region, enjoyed sunset boat cruises along the bay and did his best to navigate it all with an admittedly rudimentary grasp of the Spanish language. “I had to Google translate everything,” he said with a laugh. The trip was not only meant to be a day at the Spanish beach, however. For Branham, the aim in Spain was to work mainly on his game. “I don’t want to be the same player I was last year,” Branham said. “I know there is more room to improve.” With the Spurs’ timeline for rebuilding having recently accelerated, Branham would do well to take that leap sooner rather than later.

Portis beamed with pride on Thursday as he talked about his mom getting to be a part of a day trip across the Mediterranean Sea to Morocco with other USA players’ family members while the team was staying in Spain. “Coming from where we come from, the situations we lived in, I lived in 16, 17, 18 houses growing up, never had my own room,” Portis said. “My mom, never in a million years did she think she’d see Spain. And now, she had the chance to go to Africa, see Africa. Imagine that.
Where's the spot that you're like, if I get a chance to come back after this 13 or 15 years? I'm definitely coming back. Boris Diaw: I would say general areas in the Mediterranean Sea. I love the Croatian islands. Very tiny islands. Super cool. And then the Aeolian Islands. It's like north of Sicily and they have volcanoes like erupting so you can go hike and go see like some lava spewing out of the volcanoes, go around and sailing around those small islands. It's pretty much like a bunch of small volcanoes around. Some are extinct and some are still alive and going. So that was really cool. And then in the Caribbean. I liked it when I went to the Virgin Islands.
Marc Gasol will never forget the terrified look on the face of Josefa, the Cameroonian woman left clinging to a piece of wood for 48 hours in the Mediterranean. Josefa was the survivor of a shipwreck about 90 miles off the Libyan coast last Sunday. Rescuers recovered two bodies in the water alongside her, including that of a toddler.

Gasol will soon return to the United States to prepare for the new season with the Grizzlies, but he will not forget his time on the Mediterranean. “I cannot understand how anyone can turn away from these people who are dying at sea,” he said. “How can we pretend it isn’t happening? Before being an athlete, I’m a person, a human being, like the ones Open Arms are saving every day. We must work so that these tragedies never happen again. We are all responsible.”

The 36 yeard old NBA star Dwyane Wade is cruising around the Mediterranean sea and he visited the port of Barcelona. He also had the chance to train in FC Barcelona’s facilities and he didn’t leave with empty hands, getting a Barcelona jersey with his name on it as a gift.
🏀🙌 We have a very special guest today...@DwyaneWade
