Renardo Sidney‘s trip to Houston for training and counseling was not the junior’s decision, Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury revealed today. “Let’s make sure to get this clear: it was not his decision to go to Houston,” Stansbury said. “Everybody understand that. I made that decision, nobody else made that decision. I made the decision, OK? That’s where that is and, again, would I have liked for him to have been on the trip? I would have and it would have been good, but there are some things he had to handle that he hadn’t handled. Since then, he has.” Sidney attended a training camp and received counseling from former NBA star John Lucas this summer. Sidney returned to campus in early July but left the team later in the month to return to Houston, bypassing the Bulldogs’ five exhibition games in Europe. “He fulfilled some obligations he had to have for the team,” Stansbury said today. “And he did that. So, we’ll see if he keeps progressing. We all want to hope and believe he can.”
Renardo Sidney will not travel with Mississippi State's basketball team on its five-game European exhibition trip, opting to return to Houston and work out with former NBA player John Lucas. Sidney, a 6-foot-10 forward, is expected to return to campus by mid-August to rejoin the Bulldogs for preseason workouts, according to a statement released by coach Rick Stansbury.
Several hours before its chances of making the National Invitational Tournament ended, sophomore forward Renardo Sidney announced on his Facebook page he would return for his junior season at MSU. A MSU spokesman said Sunday Bulldogs coach Rick Stansbury hadn't talked to Sidney and wouldn't comment on his future with the team. Said Sidney, "YES for all you BULLDOG fans I will attend MSU another yr and I promise to work even harder than I have ever work b4 getting in shape is my main focus... watch out for them DOGS next season!!!"
Mississippi State forward Renardo Sidney has been suspended from the basketball team for one game for “conduct detrimental to the team,” a team spokesman said today. The spokesman said an outburst during Monday’s practice in Hawaii spurred the suspension, which comes three days after Sidney made his highly anticipated debut for the Bulldogs. MSU coach Rick Stansbury was not available for comment, but the school did release a short statement from Stansbury that read: “At this time, Sid is suspended indefinitely. That’s all I’m saying. That’s all that needs to be said.”
