Whereas Jalen Green said he was unsurprised by the trade, Dillon Brooks told the Chronicle he didn’t expect “at all” to leave Houston until he started hearing his name in trade rumors about a week before the news broke. When the deal finally went down, he felt more remorse than resentment.
Duane Rankin: Jalen Green on being with Suns: "We're going to surprise a lot of people and make a lot of noise." On trade: "It hurts. Houston is home to me and forever will be home to me." On playing with Devin Booker: Me and him are going to be a deadly scoring duo." #Suns #Rockets pic.x.com/TNoTv12FAe
Kendrick Perkins: Then the Rockets reach out. Daryl Morey calls me: “Hey Perk, James [Harden] wants you on the bench. We got a vet minimum for you in Houston, your hometown.” I turned it down because I’d already given my word to Dell. Thought it was the right thing to do. Then they sign Nene. As soon as I turned it down, next thing I know—they sign Nene. Summer goes on. I’m watching other guys sign deals. I don’t hear from Dell Demps. I contact him in August: “Hey D, what we doing?” He calls me and says, “Yeah, after rethinking some things, we think it’s best to let the young guys roll and not bring you back.” I’m like, “What the f***?” I cussed his ass out on the phone. Hung up. Truth is—I had no more options. That year, I was out of the league. No job. You possibly cost me a championship. I turned down actual offers. The Rockets contacted me the first week of free agency: “We got a vet minimum for you. Stay in Houston.” Next year? Nothing. No job.
Rafer Alston is returning to Houston. The former Rockets starting point guard was named the new head boy’s basketball coach for the Lutheran South Academy Pioneers on Wednesday. “Coach Alston is known for his tremendous playing career including a 5 year stint with the Houston Rockets,” LSA said on X. ” He is excited to take the reins of the LSA Boys Basketball program!”

Shams Charania: Phoenix: Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming, Koby Brea, Daeqwon Plowden, 2nd. Houston: Kevin Durant, Clint Capela. Brooklyn: 2 2nds. Golden State: Alex Toohey, Jahmai Mashack. Atlanta: 2nd swap, David Roddy, cash. Lakers: Adou Thiero. Minnsota: Rocco Zikarsky, 2 2nds, cash. Terms of the first ever NBA trade involving seven teams.
Houston has only the midlevel exception to sign a player, which meant they had to turn either the Finney-Smith or Clint Capela agreement into a sign-and-trade. That’s what they’re doing in this seven-team deal, which is not yet complete and which would include Capela heading from Atlanta to Houston.
Speaking on the latest episode of the All The Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Mobley reflected on his time with Yao in Houston and expressed that the 7-foot-6 center was more than just a dominant post scorer. “What people don’t understand about Yao. He could pass the ball, like Joker, he could've done that,” Mobley said. “It’s just the offense didn’t. Say we would’ve had Rick Adelman, for a fact, you would’ve seen more of Yao Ming. Like that Chris Webber, that Vlade Divac, Brad Miller type of passing. He had all of it.”
Bobby Marks: The Jock Landale waiver was required in order for Houston to stay below the 1st apron. Houston is triggering the 1st apron as part of the Dorian Finney-Smith signing along with acquiring Clint Capela sign-and-trade. The Rockets are 1 of 7 teams involved in a record breaking trade that includes Kevin Durant and Capela. That trade is likely to be finalized on July 6.

The Hawks would be sending Clint Capela to the Rockets in what would become a sign-and-trade, league sources say. Durant would go to Houston. The previously reported return for him, including Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, would go to Phoenix. Only five players who were in the NBA last season are being discussed in the current iteration of the trade, as of now: Durant, Brooks, Green, Clint Capela and Daeqwon Plowden, league sources say.
Of the eight rejected bids, only two (Houston and Charlotte, N.C.) were backed by NBA team owners. The other six (St. Louis; Kansas City, Mo.; Austin, Texas; Nashville, Tenn.; Miami; and Denver) sent proposals without support from NBA ownership. While Miami and Denver have NBA teams, the ownership was not involved in the WNBA bid.
Jake Fischer: Clint Capela is going to return to Houston by why of sign-and-trade, sources say. The Rockets are sending a 2031 second-round pick swap plus cash to the Hawks, in exchange for helping facilitate the veteran center’s second stop in Houston.
Shams Charania: Free agent center Clint Capela has agreed to a three-year, $21.5 million deal with the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN. Major frontcourt addition – and return to Houston for Capela.
