The Houston Rockets today announced they have signed forward Cameron Matthews. Matthews (6-7, 235) was eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft following his graduate senior season at Mississippi State.
Michael Scotto: Two-time SEC All-Defensive Team selection Cam Mathews (Mississippi State) will join the Houston Rockets and compete for a two-way spot in training camp, league sources told @hoopshype .
Post, drafted 52nd in June and shoehorned into the roster on a two-way contract, had shown promise in his most recent G League stint, scoring 30, 30 and 27 in three early January games. He’s a true 7-footer who made 40-plus percent of his college 3s at Mississippi State and Boston College and impressed Green, Kevon Looney and the coaching staff in camp enough with his toughness and physicality to warrant an opportunity. There were even people in the organization a little annoyed that the front office didn’t get him to Minnesota in time for that shorthanded game against the Timberwolves to close the previous road trip. The staff has gained increasing belief in recent weeks that Post, an older rookie at 24, might be able to fill an obvious void as a floor-spacing center.
Behind him, students danced in delirium at midcourt. Damon Stoudamire, the first Georgia Tech coach to win his first game against Duke, is a mighty career 1-0 in the ACC. That’s it. But as far as debuts go, this is about as good as it gets. Taken on its own, Tech’s 72-68 win over No. 7 Duke does not a renaissance make. Dig into the actual game, though, and the substance reveals itself. The Yellow Jackets led for all but 1:38, coughing up the edge at the most precarious point — with two minutes remaining. Yet down four, they rallied back, ultimately scoring the game-winner on a bold alley-oop, They secured it with not one but two successive defensive swarms. Back that stalwartness up to a win against No. 21 Mississippi State four days prior, and the seeds of what Stoudamire is sowing begin to show.

As he continues with his rehab, Hood will also keep working toward finishing his degree at Duke, where he played in college after he transferred there from Mississippi State. The process toward completing his degree began after Hood suffered the injury, and he said it’s important to him to graduate from college after leaving school early to enter the NBA Draft in 2014. “Just to be able to take online classes during the pandemic and get closer to my goal, which is to graduate, I know that means a lot to me and my family,” Hood said. “I just want to keep pursuing that and stress that education is important.”
