Gray Television, Inc., and Gray’s Lubbock television stations KLCW and KMYL announced today that it has reached an agreement that will make ten Dallas Mavericks games available to fans during the rest of the 2023-24 regular season locally in the Lubbock DMA. These Dallas Mavericks games will begin tonight (Friday, March 1) when the Mavericks play in Boston.
No matter where Jarrett Culver goes, his heart will always be in Lubbock. The former Texas Tech basketball standout and current NBA guard will return to his native Lubbock from July 18-21 to host the second annual Jarrett Culver Basketball Camp.
NBA Hall-Of-Famer Shaquille O’Neal will be in Lubbock for Texas Tech football’s home opener September 11, the school announced Tuesday. “The Big Diesel” will DJ the pregame party at Raider Alley before Texas Tech kicks off against Stephen F. Austin.
Looking back, he blames his under-the-radar status in part on location—“Not a lot of people got out to Lubbock to see what I could do”—and also on his relative late-bloomer status; unlike some other prominent members of the 2019 lottery class, Culver wasn’t an Instagram highlight star at 14 or 15. But Texas Tech coach Chris Beard saw plenty to offer the hometown kid a scholarship, and after a slow-building freshman campaign in 2017-18—in which he started most of the second half of the season—Beard’s faith was more than justified last year.
