Texas forward Greg Brown announced Thursday he is turning pro and won't return to the Longhorns for his sophomore season under new coach Chris Beard. Brown, who is ranked No. 29 in ESPN's top 100 draft prospects, was a top-10 recruit when he signed with Texas and former coach Shaka Smart.
Texas Longhorns guard Matt Coleman has declared for the 2021 NBA Draft, as the school announced that he’ll hire an agent and turn professional instead of returning for a fifth season and playing for new head coach Chris Beard.
Looking back, he blames his under-the-radar status in part on location—“Not a lot of people got out to Lubbock to see what I could do”—and also on his relative late-bloomer status; unlike some other prominent members of the 2019 lottery class, Culver wasn’t an Instagram highlight star at 14 or 15. But Texas Tech coach Chris Beard saw plenty to offer the hometown kid a scholarship, and after a slow-building freshman campaign in 2017-18—in which he started most of the second half of the season—Beard’s faith was more than justified last year.
Pete Thamel: Great nugget for @YahooSports NBA Draft show: Jarrett Culver demanded that his agents find a gym for him to workout after the draft. (Which will be like midnight). His reps told me they have one reserved. @TexasTechMBB coach Chris Beard: "The game consumes him."
Jeff Goodman: Texas Tech coach Chris Beard told ESPN that Zach Smith will return to Lubbock next season. Will withdraw from NBA Draft.

Recently fired Sacramento Kings coach George Karl is making a push to land the suddenly open coaching position at Nevada-Las Vegas, USA TODAY Sports has learned. A person with knowledge of the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the coaching search, said Karl has already had initial dialogue with school officials about the job. UNLV initiated that contact Thursday night when it became apparent Chris Beard might leave for Texas Tech. Beard informed UNLV he was leaving for Texas Tech on Friday, according to a statement by UNLV athletics director Tina Kunzer-Murphy.
