The Knicks’ talent — and size — advantage was simply too much to overcome down the stretch. New York rallied in the third and held off Golden State in the fourth to hand the Warriors a 110-107 loss. It was Golden State’s fifth defeat in a row. With the Blazers losing, the Warriors remained a half-game up on Portland for the ninth seed. Brandin Podziemski scored 25 and Gui Santos had 22, while Quinten Post returned from a sore ankle to score 20. Jalen Brunson put up a game-high 30 points for the Knicks.

“I would love to be here for the rest of my career. I love this place,” Brunson told The Post. “They’ve welcomed me with open arms. They’ve been behind my back since Day 1. I built a life here. And I love the city, I love the fans, I love everything this place has offered me, on and off the court. So I just love it here. And I’d love to stay.”

The 6-foot-5 Haliburton played a small role in the national team's 2024 run to the gold medal, but he has good size and is a natural distributor. Assuming good health -- like Tatum, Haliburton is recovering from a torn Achilles, suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals -- he will be strongly considered for a return and an expanded role. That could leave a choice between Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Maxey -- smaller guards with different playing styles. "Jalen wants to play. He would love it," a source close to Brunson told ESPN. "Tyrese would be honored," a source close to the Philadelphia 76ers guard said.

The Celtics could be getting Jayson Tatum back for the playoffs. He recently began some on-court work and did not rule out a return this year. And the Cavaliers acquired James Harden from the Clippers just ahead of the deadline, providing Donovan Mitchell with the best co-star he’s had. “He’s a very dangerous player in our league,” Jalen Brunson said of Tatum. “Seeing him go down last year, it sucks to see. You never want to see that from anyone in any sport. The fact that he’s worked so hard to get to where he is and preparing to come back is a testament to who he is. Basketball fans around the world definitely are excited to see his comeback.”

“If I’m thinking about playing well to make sure I get paid, that could mess with me,” he says. “I play best when I have a free mind, and that did that for me. A lot of people say I sacrificed for the team. One hundred percent I sacrificed for the team. But most importantly, I made sure my family and I are taken care of.” Brunson’s $113 million discount provided the Knicks with precious cap flexibility, but come 2028, he will be eligible for a five-year, $417.8 million deal. He will be 32 entering that season, an age when smaller guards often show signs of decline, but Brunson is hopeful the Knicks will reward his team-friendly extension. “Obviously we’d love for them to do right by me,” Brunson says. “I think anyone would. I feel like I sacrificed.”
