With this unprecedented attention and pressure, Fever star Kelsey Mitchell reached out to someone who knows a thing or two about playing postseason action under the brightest of lights: D'Angelo Russell. Mitchell discussed her conversation with the Lakers star after Wednesday's practice. “I recently talked to my close friend D’Angelo Russell. We go way back. Me and him go back to the point where we trained together at Ohio State. We kind of know each other so, from that perspective, it was good to get a conversation in regards to how [the playoffs] looked. I also got a chance to talk to [Miles] McBride…he made a run with the Knicks, so he knew what it was like, too. We’re from the same home town. I like to get as much information as I can so it’s been exciting to hear about it.”

Aaron Williams' life as a retired NBA player turned sports dad took an interesting twist. Danyelle, who played volleyball at Northwestern and Tulane, is dating White. His other daughter, Cameron, plays basketball at Michigan, and she's dating Wolverines defensive end Jaylen Harrell. He made arguably the most pivotal play of the last college football season with a hit on Ohio State QB Kyle McCord that helped force a game-clinching interception. Harrell competed in the NFL Combine last weekend and is likely to get drafted. Williams also has a son, A.J., who plays basketball at Carthage. “I was always nervous about my daughter dating an athlete, because I see what happens and how a lot of guys just run through girls,” said Williams, a former Rolling Meadows High School star. “But I think I raised my girls right.”

The Lakers appear to have made the most aggressive known bid to date for Murray. Los Angeles has been willing to include a 2029 first-round pick plus a pick swap in its attempts to land the Hawks guard, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Atlanta is searching for a better player return than Russell, sources said, and the Hawks seem to prefer not taking back future salary, leaving the possibility for another three-team deal at the deadline that includes Russell — after he joined the Lakers by way of last February’s Utah-Minnesota-Los Angeles triple dip. Russell holds an $18.6 million player option for next season that will factor into any team’s decision to obtain the Ohio State product.
Don’t get me wrong: Bronny can impact winning, and he will help coach Andy Enfield at USC. But he was to be a piece of the puzzle, a role player who got 15 or so minutes coming off the bench. Maybe he’d average a half-dozen points, a couple assists, and a few boards per contest. “Ninety percent of freshmen are role players,” says Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann, whose Buckeyes were among the finalists to land James. “I do think he can play a significant role for three reasons. He’s a two-way player, like his dad, he’s really smart in how he plays, and he can really shoot the ball. He’s got those qualities, and he’s going to impact winning for them.”
