We are proud to feature on the first cover of the new year former Carmel High School (CHS) Greyhound and NBA player Josh McRoberts. Upon his retirement from the NBA, McRoberts decided to move back to his previous stomping grounds and return to the CHS basketball program that he evolved in, as a volunteer assistant coach.
We spoke with McRoberts about his experiences as a youth with Carmel athletics and the Carmel Dads’ Club. We also asked McRoberts about how his experiences as a power forward in the NBA may be beneficial to the current generation of Greyhounds Basketball players he’s working with as an assistant coach. “From a career perspective, I think that the coaching that I received through the [Carmel] Dads’ Club throughout growing up and in middle and high school helped me a lot,” McRoberts shared. “The help from my coaches in high school and having a support system that included my family and the Carmel community as a whole was a big thing for me.”
“I think it would’ve been cool to play the Pacers or with one team my entire career, but I will always be grateful for the opportunity to experience and play in different cities with different teams and coaches,” McRoberts expressed. “I got to play with some of the best players—some of the best of all time. It was an invaluable experience to be able to see the things that I was able to see throughout my career.”
Thursday a photographer on Instagram with the username CreativeNLB5 released a few photos from the Spurs’ summer workouts before training camp begins later next month. In the photos, a few current Spurs players like Rudy Gay, Dejounte Murray, Bryn Forbes, and DeMar DeRozan appear, while Spurs legends Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili also appear along with Head Coach Gregg Popovich. Interestingly, two players not on the Spurs roster (yet) that appear to be working out with the team are unrestricted free agents Josh McRoberts and Josh Huestis. ... If McRoberts and Huestis are indeed training camp invites, the Spurs’ roster would be up to 17 players, with three additional roster spots available for training camp.

Earl K. Sneed: Rick Carlisle says the @Dallas Mavericks will check the waiver wire and buyouts to fill their last roster spot after waiving Josh McRoberts.
Mike Fisher: ALERT: Source tells DallasBasketball.com that #Mavs plan to give buyout candidate Josh McRoberts his release tonight.
After a long road of broken bones, Josh McRoberts was active for the Mavericks on Sunday night for the first time this season. It's not the end of the process. In fact, McRoberts didn't play Sunday. But it was a major accomplishment that the 6-10 forward/center has made it to the point where he can suit up.
"It feels good to be back a little bit," McRoberts said before the Mavericks closed out 2017 against the Thunder. "I don't expect to play too much. I'm not that back -- not back 100 percent. But it's a step in the right direction. It's been a long time coming."

Josh McRoberts could make his season debut as early as Sunday night against the Thunder. At the least, if he doesn't have any setbacks after an exhaustive workout on Saturday, he should be able to get on the court soon after New Year's Day. "McRoberts is getting closer," Carlisle said. "We'll see where he is in the morning. I think there's an outside chance, because of our roster situation -- having only 11 guys available -- that he could be active. But it's less than 50-50. We'll talk about it tomorrow."
Eddie Sefko: Rick Carlisle on injured Mavericks like Seth Curry, Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh McRoberts: "We’re still hoping to get some guys back at some point. We’re just not sure what month. I’ve been wrong so far. Not December.”
