Donatas Motiejunas: When I signed the contract I went for a for a medical checkup. Brooklyn cleared me and then when Houston signed extension they failed me on the medical. Q. But how is this possible? How can one team clear you and one doctor is like… Motiejunas: There was no such a rule. I'm pretty sure there's a rule right now in the NBA under my name. That was the first situation like that in NBA history. So in the end I couldn't go to Brooklyn as a free agent but because I was not cleared. So they kind of excluded that deal and I couldn't go back to either Houston or Brooklyn. I could go anywhere else. Q. How much was the offer? Motiejunas: I think it was 40-some. Q. $37 million over four years. Motiejunas: Yeah. Q. And so because of this rule the deal just vanished. Motiejunas: Yeah.
Donatas Motiejunas: In the NBA they tried to make me Dwight Howard. And I had the body. I mean I cannot say like Kevin Durant, but no one's trying to make Kevin Durant be Dwight Howard through his career. They were like making him strong in the movements and letting him to grow into who he is. But for me they were like ‘let's make a Dwight Howard out of this guy.’ It's like ‘okay’. So I ended up with a blown disc. End of my NBA career.
AS Monaco center Donatas Motiejunas extended his contract with the team for two more seasons, the club announced. The Lithuanian big man has been playing for the team since 2021. “I am extremely happy to stay in Monaco to try to achieve this goal [of winning the EuroLeague], to try to realize this dream,” Motiejunas said per Monaco. “You know how hard I worked on the court last year, how hard I live every day, I love our fans. I love the city of Monaco. I am very happy. For me, Monaco is my second home.”

After learning that the Pistons voided the Bol Bol deal, Motiejunas spoke out about the situation. "I was failed on physicals and told by Detroit doctors I will not play basketball again.
