Anthony Black, a standout receiver at Texas’ Coppell High School in the Class of 2022, had more than a dozen offers in football despite most coaches knowing he probably would play basketball. Texas, Baylor and Arkansas were among the football programs sold on him. “Dude would have been a (matchup) nightmare,” UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who had been the Longhorns receivers coach, told The Athletic on Thursday night. “He could actually run routes at that size, had the mentality and could stretch the field.”

And Amundson, who was officially measured at 6-8, is hoping to lead the team to a finals appearance after the Texters fell short in the Philippine Cup. “I hope so,” the UNLV product said ahead of his debut on Friday night against Meralco. “That’s the goal and that’s what we’re here for.”

The Louisville recruiting scandal got former Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose reminiscing about when he made official visits to four schools: U-M, Michigan State, Syracuse and UNLV. Bennett, 20, said he’s trying to recapture the feeling he had at UNLV, where he was Big West Conference Player of the Year. “I’m trying to get back to my old days like I was in college,” he said. The 6-foot-8, 259-pound Bennett admits this whole process has taken longer than he thought it would. “It’s a tough league,” he said. “It’s not going to come right away. (My teammates) have been really supportive. They are always talking to me during games, before games and in practice. “I guess I’m on the right track.”
