This year marks the first time since 2006 that the camp has run. Some of the top players in high school competed over three days in front of NBA scouts and executives from all 30 teams. There were also some NBA legacy kids in attendance like Pierre Rondo (Rajon Rondo) and RJ Evans (Reggie Evans). Rajon was like any typical dad, taking pictures and videos on his phone of Pierre during drills and scrimmages. RJ Evans is one of the top players in the 2029 high school class and was a top performer of the camp, coming off a strong AAU season on the adidas 3SSB circuit. “I’ve heard the stories of this camp growing up, and it’s just cool to come out here and be included in the first one back in 20 years,” Evans said. “I’m one of the younger guys here, so I just want to go out and cook and show that I’m one of the best players in the country.”

Although Reggie Evans has been able to put a lot of focus into his foundation and giving back to Pensacola, he’s still pushing to get back to the NBA. As long as his body continues to hold up, he said he could probably play for another two years. “I want to show I can still play against high-caliber players,” he said. “At the end of the day, I want to be remembered as a guy who laid it all out there and had a lot of love for the game of basketball.”

Reggie Evans used to peddle drugs in order to make ends meet but now wants to help repair his hometown. Speaking to the Washington Post, Evans revealed that he took to selling crack cocaine in his youth to support his family as his mother struggled to meet monthly bills. "As soon as my mama would get a cheque, she had enough to pay the rent, enough to pay the light bill, and whatever she had left over, she had to use a lot of that to catch community transportation to get to work and back," Evans recalled. "So, I got with my cousin and I just started buying dope."
