Steve Kerr: “The days are full, the schedule is full, and so I check in with Kristaps occasionally to see how he’s doing. But we’re moving forward, and that’s all we can do. I like our young bigs, Graham [Ike] and Charles [Bassey]. We’re excited about playing those guys, and the opportunity that they’re going to receive, but everything else is not my jurisdiction. That’s Mike’s [Dunleavy] and the front office’s, and I just come to practice and I look forward to coaching the guys every day. We’re competing and seeing what we can put together.”

Dalton Johnson: Gui Santos is questionable for tomorrow's Warriors game in Denver with left tendinitis after leaving early last night in Phoenix @nbcswarriors.bsky.social Charles Bassey (right knee) and Brandon Williams (lower back) are both probable

Nick Fridell: Steph is out. Draymond is out. Podz is out. Horford is out. Bassey is questionable vs. Suns. It’s going to be an interesting ride for the Warriors tonight. Specific to Podz, Kerr is hopeful he’ll be back Monday in Denver.

How do you look at this challenge with you and the team managing Porzingis’ injury and the overall center position? Al Horford: “It is a big challenge for us. The way that I’m approaching it is that I have to do a little more. But Dray has to step up, I have to step up. Some of our younger guys are going to have more opportunities. Graham [Ike] and [Charles] Bassey are going to have to step in and play. At this point, that’s all we can do. I’ve been in a position on teams before where we all have to pick up the slack for others. This isn’t any different now.” How have KP’s spirits been with all of this? Horford: “I don’t know. I haven’t been able to check in with him on that."

Anthony Slater: Brandin Podziemski has been upgraded to probable tonight for the Warriors home opener against the Grizzlies. Trending toward making season debut after missing opener with back soreness. Charles Bassey remains out. GSW depleted at center spot.

Nick Friedell: A couple more notes from Kerr: Bassey also did not practice because of knee tendinitis. He is day to day. Kristaps Porzingis will not travel with the Warriors as they start the season.

Brandin Podziemski and Charles Bassey did not participate. Bassey was seen having his right knee wrapped in ice, and the Warriors are saying he’s dealing with right knee tendinitis. Kerr did not know why Podziemski was absent but did confirm he practiced prior to the open session.

The standout player of the day offensively was Brandin Podziemski. There wasn’t a close second. Podziemski looked like the player the Warriors are looking to take another leap in Year 4 as he waits on his second contract. “Three days in, he’s had a great camp,” Kerr said. Podziemski was loud and vocal defensively and offensively. He was directing traffic with the ball in his hands and found multiple ways to score without hesitation. Podziemski drew four fouls, including two three-point plays, and only missed one free throw. On back-to-back possessions, Podziemski got a frustrated Charles Bassey to foul him at the rim. Immediately after getting a whistle called on his teammates for the fourth time, Podziemski blew past Dalen Terry on the run for a layup. “That’s what we like about Brandin: His ability to see the game, attack angles and he understands the officiating,” Kerr said. “He can dribble, pass, shoot. You can put him at any spot out of a timeout. Really versatile and obviously crucial to make the whole thing go.”

Michael Scotto: The Golden State Warriors signed Charles Bassey to a one-year, $2.85 million deal, which is partially guaranteed for $1.4 million, league sources told @hoopshype . Bassey helps fill the void of Quinten Post, who recently signed with the Grizzlies. ESPN first reported an agreement.

Shams Charania: The Golden State Warriors and center Charles Bassey have agreed on a one-year deal, bringing the big man back to the Bay Area for his sixth NBA season, sources tell ESPN. Bassey returns to Golden State in wake of Quinten Post joining the Grizzlies on an offer sheet.

Enter Charles Bassey. His pedigree, profile and history don’t compare to Horford or Porziņģis. His three days with the Warriors don’t compare to Post’s two seasons. Bassey signed with Golden State on Sunday morning, and played 10 minutes that night. Bassey played 27 minutes Tuesday night. Not only played, but filled a crucial role in Golden State’s 110-105 win over the Sacramento Kings. “He’s a really impressive player,” coach Steve Kerr said after Bassey gave the Warriors 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals, posting plus-9 on those 27 minutes.

Bassey is an exception. He acts as if he belongs. In his first two games with the Warriors, everything the 6-foot-10, 230-pound center/forward does on the court exudes a determination to be seen and appreciated. “It means a lot, man, to have this opportunity,” Bassey told NBC Sports Bay Area. “I'm just trying to use this because, you never know when your chance will come. It means a lot just being here. They gave me this opportunity, and it means a lot to me, my family and the team.”
