The Heat’s final offer included Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, two bench players and the 20th pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft. Haywood Highsmith and Jaime Jaquez Jr. were discussed as those two additional pieces in Miami’s offer, the source said. In order for Miami to make the deal cap compliant and offer the Suns more than only Wiggins, Rozier and the 20th pick, Miami was willing to take on the salary of an unnamed Suns player, according to an Eastern Conference source.

As the Heat (29-36) dropped its fifth game in a row and fell seven games under .500 for the first time since the 2020-21 season in Wednesday night’s 119-104 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Kaseya Center, Ware was in his usual starting role but was benched to begin the second half after a bad first half. Instead of going with the double-big look of Bam Adebayo and Ware to start Wednesday’s second half, the Heat began the third quarter with forward Haywood Highsmith on the court in Ware’s place. “[Heat coach Erik Spoelstra] just talked to me,” Ware said of his reaction to beginning Wednesday’s third quarter on the bench. “He told me at halftime what he’s doing and I was like, ‘OK, I got it.’”

Shams Charania: Jimmy Butler showed up to shootaround yesterday and participated in part of it. Here’s what I’m told happened: Erik Spoelstra informed Butler and the team that he would be coming off the bench moving forward, replaced by Haywood Highsmith in the starting lineup. That led Butler to walk out of the session. He exited the room, and hours later, the Heat handed down an indefinite suspension—his third this month.

“Just control what I can control,” Highsmith, 28, said after playing limited minutes against the Trail Blazers. “It’s a long season. I know there are going to be ups and downs. I’m used to it, for sure.” Highsmith received two DNP-CDs (did not play, coach’s decision) in the Heat’s first four games and has logged single-digit minutes in five games this season, as his minutes have fluctuated despite being used in a starting role for most of the schedule.
