Michael Scotto: The Phoenix Suns have waived Haywood Highsmith, league sources told @hoopshype. He was partially guaranteed $1 million of his $3 million salary for the 2026-27 season. The 3-and-D forward has averaged 5.4 points on 38% 3-point shooting and 3.1 rebounds in six NBA seasons.
The Heat could try to lure impending free agent LeBron James with its full midlevel exception, but a James return is considered a long shot. The Heat also has available a $5.5 million biannual exception as well as a $5.6 million exception from the Haywood Highsmith trade with Brooklyn. That exception expires Aug. 17.
Keith Smith: By my projections Suns will be roughly $4.6M under the tax and $12.6M under the first apron after re-signing Collin Gillespie. Can create more room if they move on from Haywood Highsmith and/or Jamaree Bouyea. It'll get tight to avoid the first apron if they re-sign Mark Williams and Jordan Goodwin.
