Don’t get me wrong: Bronny can impact winning, and he will help coach Andy Enfield at USC. But he was to be a piece of the puzzle, a role player who got 15 or so minutes coming off the bench. Maybe he’d average a half-dozen points, a couple assists, and a few boards per contest. “Ninety percent of freshmen are role players,” says Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann, whose Buckeyes were among the finalists to land James. “I do think he can play a significant role for three reasons. He’s a two-way player, like his dad, he’s really smart in how he plays, and he can really shoot the ball. He’s got those qualities, and he’s going to impact winning for them.”
Jim Owczarski: #Bucks video coordinator Nick Kellogg announced he’s headed to Columbus, Ohio to work as a special asst. with Chris Holtmann on the Ohio State #Buckeyes staff. Mike Budenholzer’s coaching & support staff continues to undergo changes this offseason.
They’ve gone back to that well, hiring their own, for decades. From coaches Thad Matta to Todd Lickliter to Brad Stevens, Chris Holtmann and Jordan. Most have panned out. Brandon Miller and Jordan did not. Some might push for them to truly have a national search and hire the best available. However, if they choose to stay in the Butler family, it doesn’t get much better than Nored — who is seriously interested in the job, league sources told Fieldhouse Files.
The last time he was at Ohio State, he got a taste of the coaching life. Now, Greg Oden is coming back for a bigger bite. The former Buckeye center and eventual No. 1 NBA draft pick will join Chris Holtmann’s staff this season as a graduate student with an eye on becoming a full-time coach. It’s a bigger role than the one Oden held previously at Ohio State, when he was a student manager and eventually student coach before earning his degree two years ago. “I’m thankful, honestly, for coach Holt and his staff who have welcomed me in and given me this opportunity because that’s literally what I want to do is get into coaching,” Oden said. “One of the toughest things to do is get your foot in the door, so for them to give me this opportunity while I’m able to actually get a Master’s degree in sports coaching from The Ohio State University, which I would love, is something that’s just amazing. I couldn’t ask for anything better. I’m just so thankful and ready to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Wesson will go through the draft process, but still retain his eligibility should he choose to return for his junior season.
