Hawaii is paying the Los Angeles Clippers $750,000 as part of a partnership that would bring the basketball team to the Islands for training camp and a preseason game in Honolulu against the Golden State Warriors in October. Public records show that the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) will receive several marketing opportunities both during the Clippers time in Hawaii, as well as in Los Angeles, most notably being given the designation of Official Partner of the L.A. Clippers.
The Clippers have previous ties to the state, with this year marking their fourth training camp in Honolulu since 2017. The Clippers will arrive in Honolulu on Oct. 2, after the team holds its season-opening media day in Los Angeles. The team said its foundation, along with the Hawaiian tourism authority, will help wildfire recovery efforts in other ways as well.

The Lakers might not be staying home for training camp after all. After returning to Honolulu, Hawaii, last September, the Lakers are in the process of relocating Luke Walton’s first training camp to Santa Barbara. While the move has not been finalized, it is in the works, Lakers spokesman John Black said. It’s unclear what prompted the move, but coaches often like to seclude players early in the season to help build chemistry.

Jerry Buss -- who owned the L.A. Lakers before he died -- has given a girlfriend many decades younger than him an awesome parting gift -- his Honolulu, Hawaii condo and his 2009 Bentley! TMZ just obtained a copy of Jerry's will, and he leaves just about everything to his family trust. The trustee is Jerry's daughter, Jeanie Buss. According to the will, the estate is worth in excess of $5.5 million (although his assets obviously total way more than that).
