Northwestern swingman Nick Martinelli, the leading scorer in the Big Ten this season, is testing the waters ahead of the draft, but will keep his college eligibility, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony (Twitter link). The 6’7" forward averaged 20.5 PPG in 2024/25 for the Wildcats. He would stay with Northwestern were he to return to the NCAA. Martinelli was not among the top 100 prospects on Givony’s latest 2025 pre-draft big board.

Aaron Williams' life as a retired NBA player turned …

Aaron Williams' life as a retired NBA player turned sports dad took an interesting twist. Danyelle, who played volleyball at Northwestern and Tulane, is dating White. His other daughter, Cameron, plays basketball at Michigan, and she's dating Wolverines defensive end Jaylen Harrell. He made arguably the most pivotal play of the last college football season with a hit on Ohio State QB Kyle McCord that helped force a game-clinching interception. Harrell competed in the NFL Combine last weekend and is likely to get drafted. Williams also has a son, A.J., who plays basketball at Carthage. “I was always nervous about my daughter dating an athlete, because I see what happens and how a lot of guys just run through girls,” said Williams, a former Rolling Meadows High School star. “But I think I raised my girls right.”

The memories that flash first are happy. Nebraska …

The memories that flash first are happy. Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg remembers Chicago for the day his twin sons were born, for the two seasons he spent establishing himself as an NBA rotation player on the Bulls, and for the playoff series he almost won as Chicago's coach in 2017. But as the Huskers travel to Northwestern, located 14 miles north of Hoiberg’s old life, on Tuesday, the more painful recollections return. The mounting losses, the speculation surrounding his job, and the stress he shouldered in Chicago are resurfacing in Lincoln four years later.

Former Timberwolves big man Reggie Slater used to work tirelessly with his two oldest sons, teaching them the finer points of basketball. He conducted all sorts of drills, including being able to shoot layups and dribble with both hands. So much for that. “As soon as I’d finish with the drills, they’d go right inside and watch football,” Slater said. Slater’s oldest son, R.J. Slater, now 24, ended up playing on the offensive line at Air Force, finishing up in 2018. And his middle son, Northwestern tackle Rashawn Slater, 22, is a shoo-in first-round selection in the NFL’s April 29-May 1 draft.
