Many around the league wondered if coach Taylor Jenkins would be on the hot seat this season after his assistant coaching staff endured a massive overhaul during the offseason. However, Jenkins recently became the franchise’s all-time leader in coaching wins, surpassing Lionel Hollins, and will look to add more wins to his record and guide the Grizzlies to the Conference Finals for the first time since 2013. Thus far, the Grizzlies have been one of the top teams in the West through a quarter of the season.
Whether or not the league will find any wrongdoing with Porter and the Raptors, the question remains: why does the league create risk by getting into bed with gambling companies? That’s something that has occurred to many veterans of the league. “Why allow it,” wonders Lionel Hollins, a former All-Star guard and NBA champion who later coached for years in the league. Speaking to the Guardian, Hollins says, “[It’s just] another issue that has to be monitored and for players and coaches to have to deal with.”
Lionel Hollins, the long-time Memphis Grizzlies head coach through the Grit and Grind era, will join Rockets coaching staff six years after he and Stephen Silas sought to team up on the Houston bench a person with knowledge of the Rockets additions to the coaching staff said on Sunday.
Lionel Hollins: Thank you to the @Lakers organization for allowing me to be part of something special. Thank you, of course, to the Lakers Nation for embracing me with open arms the past 2 years.

Kyle Goon: Spoke with Lionel Hollins who confirmed to SCNG that he is out with the Lakers. He's open to coaching again given the right opportunity, and he adds that he enjoyed his two years in Los Angeles with Frank Vogel's staff. The Athletic was first to report Hollins was out.
Marc Stein: The Lakers are expected to move Mike Penberthy to a front-of-the-bench role on Frank Vogel’s staff, league sources say. Lionel Hollins, formerly a head coach in Memphis and Brooklyn, has left the Lakers after two seasons as an assistant, @Jovan Buha and @Sam Amick reported.
Jovan Buha: Lakers assistant coach Lionel Hollins is no longer with the franchise, sources tell me and @Sam Amick. His contract ended and the sides did not agree to new terms.
Shams Charania: Sources: Candidates for lead assistant role for Portland Trail Blazers and new head coach Chauncey Billups: Former Bulls/Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro, ex-Wizards/Thunder coach Scott Brooks and Lakers assistant Lionel Hollins.
Kyle Goon: Assistant coach Lionel Hollins is out again tonight after missing the previous two games. Lakers say he is not expected to return for the bench until after the All-Star break, citing personal reasons.

Wilcox: We all remember LeBron coming back in early December. Everyone in the building knows how hard it was and how emotional it was. Jamison: Oh my God. There was so much hype into that game. You had a lot of young guys (saying), “King coming back, we’re going to show him.” We were just as hyped for the game as LeBron was. Hollins: If you could imagine talking to a scorned wife or husband after a divorce, that’s what it was. Leading up to the game, I was told by so many people to give him an extra elbow and hit him on the way down. It was so personal for everybody.
“I miss being around the players,” Hollins said. “When you’re in a gym, you’re in the meeting rooms, you’re on the bus. That’s the big part of the culture and life we live. The camaraderie in the group. Not being there you’re kind of separated. Even in the meetings. Even though they can hear me talking, it’s not the same as when you’re in the room with the group. It’s a little bit disconnecting. But not anything you can’t overcome.”
