Oh No He Didn't: Darren Collison's darkhorse team in the east: "Washington Wizards. I know I sound crazy right now. Wizards are gonna surprise a lot of people in the east for this simple reason: I think Trae Young is gonna have a really good season...he has a lot to prove. I think Anthony Davis, his ability to protect the paint and be that force down low is gonna take a lot of pressure off of AJ just to be the guy. AJ doesn't have to be the guy, AJ is gonna be an added asset...they have a lot of other players...they have depth. And I always feel that the teams with the most depth have the most success. So they have youth, they have veteran leadership, and they have two guys in Trae Young and AD who have been all stars, who have played at a high level in the playoffs. So that's the team that I'm looking forward to seeing this season"
Keith Smith: Trevor Keels and the Washington Wizards have agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract, a league source told @spotrac.com . The Capital City Go-Go recently acquired Keels' G League rights.
Montrezl Harrell: I don’t know what the hell Washington is doing, to be honest with you. It doesn’t make sense. They got the young kid AJ Dybantsa, but he’s at the three. You bring over Deandre Ayton, but you already drafted the young kid Alex Sarr. Then you have Anthony Davis, but you have another center on the bench in Tristan Vukčević. Now you have four centers because you also have Jonas Valančiūnas. Your only backup to Anthony Davis right now is Anthony Gill, and then you have Trae Young with no legitimate two-guard playing. It looks like a disaster. Their starting five is Trae Young, Khris Middleton, AJ Dybantsa, Anthony Davis and Deandre Ayton. But when you look at that bench, you can beat them with that every night. It’s going to be something where the coach is going to have to coach that team. There is a lot of uncertainty down there. I don’t see them being in any serious conversation in the East. Maybe they can get into a play-in situation, but I don’t see them being a crazy East contender. I just don’t know what their team identity is.
Ira Winderman: In an interesting twist, the Heat's affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, have acquired the G League rights to center Mo Bamba. As part of the deal, the Heat have traded away their G League rights to Trevor Keels to the Wizards' affiliate.

The Knicks were a popular road draw during their title run, and it looks like that will continue in 2026-27. Games at Philly, Miami, Boston and Washington are popular on StubHub, which said 25 percent of Knicks road-game purchasers are based in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. That’s up from 21 percent last season.
Michael Scotto: The Washington Wizards have re-signed Anthony Gill to a one-year deal, league sources told @hoopshype. Gill has shot 54.5% from the field over the past six seasons with the Wizards and has been a beloved locker room presence. Gill now holds Washington’s 15th roster spot.

I'm told Dallas made a recent unsuccessful run at trying to hire Amber Nichols away from the Wizards for their overhauled front office. As HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto reported Monday, Washington has promoted Nichols from director of amateur evaluation to vice president of basketball operations and personnel. She previously served as general manager of the Wizards' Capital City Go-Go G League affiliate.

From your perspective, was that game where Trae Young sent New York home as wild as everyone makes it seem? Danilo Gallinari: Trae played amazingly. I think that we got to the playoffs with so much confidence that, especially winning the first game in New York, gives you another boost of confidence, and we had the confidence that we could win against everybody.
Looking back, what was that final season like, playing center for the Wizards and Pistons, joining the Bucks, and being traded multiple times? Danilo Gallinari: It was terrible. That's not the way that's not the way that I wish any player to finish their last season, the way that I finished it. I couldn't control any of it but to play at the five, which I never did and I never will, not even in my dreams. That's not my position. I never played it, and I will never play it, as I said, not even in my dreams, so it was a very tough situation for me to be not just a player on the court but also being in two rebuilding situations like Washington and Detroit. And then one of the biggest regrets that I have in my career is the choice that I made to go to Milwaukee for one year instead of signing two years with the Clippers, which I don't know if a lot of people know about. I had the chance to sign two years with the Clippers, and I signed one year with Milwaukee. So it's probably, when I think about it, the biggest regret; that would probably be the biggest mistake that I made. Any other choice that I did in my career was, I think, great; that choice, contract-wise and team-wise, was probably the biggest mistake.
