Gray is at the Detroit Pistons' practice facility daily, helping put big men through their drills. He was expected to be one of them, signed to a two-year contract as a free agent to be the team's third center this offseason, until the summer cardiac episode which sidelined him. That was the Pistons' official terminology for the medical incident that led them to release Gray before the season began. "I had my first kind of 'shock' here," Gray said, referring to the Pistons' practice facility, "then it was kind of a rollercoaster over the next two days."
He does extensive cardio exercises and undergoes regular testing. When and if that gets him back on the basketball court remains to be seen. "We're just taking it one step at a time right now -- still gathering information, same old answers -- and preparing for the next step," Gray said. "What step we're on, or what step we'll get to, I don't know. Eventually, there will have to be a decision on whether I can play basketball again or not."
The Detroit Pistons announced today the club has requested waivers on Aaron Gray. The 7-0, 270-pound center missed training camp while rehabbing from a cardiac episode suffered following a voluntary workout in late August.
