Perhaps James is lagging behind because he missed training camp and the start of the season with sciatica. What’s worth noting is that James’ biggest historical rival, Michael Jordan, had a drop from All-Star grace at the end of his career, too. At 39, Jordan wasn’t voted by fans as an Eastern Conference All-Star starter during his 2002-03 swan song season. East All-Star coach Isiah Thomas encouraged a willing Vince Carter to give up his starting spot to Jordan during the 2003 NBA All-Star Game. Jordan, then playing for the Washington Wizards, was celebrated during a halftime performance by legendary singer Mariah Carey.
Robin Lopez: Had a dream Mariah Carey was hanging out at my house with Brook. I went to practice and told my teammates. They tried to convince me her song Clown was on Rainbow instead of Charmbracelet, and they all pulled out vinyl copies of the album from their cars to prove me wrong.

My all-star pick right here!👇🏀😘 https://t.co/dYDnfuDXeA

Evan Closely: Love you someone the way Keldon Johnson loves his Mariah Carey songs. (But honestly, who doesn't love this guy?)

Remember the ceremonial first pitch that pop diva Mariah Carey reluctantly threw at a Japanese game back in 2008? It landed hilariously short of the target and we all laughed and laughed. (Nice outfit, though.) Well, young Washington Wizards star John Wall must have been studying the Mariah footage, because he unleashed a first pitch Friday night before the Washington Nationals game that looked remarkably similar. In a pre-pitch interview, Wall admitted he was nervous, not wanting to embarrass himself like onetime Wizards player Caron Butler apparently had in a similar situation: "Yes, there are a lot of nerves to throw it in the dirt. That's something I don't want to do. They've been joking on me about when Caron came here and he had to come back and redeem himself the next year. I'm gonna try to get it [home] on the first try."
