This NBA season marks the 40th anniversary of the “Teddi-Bears,” a dance troupe Stepien started almost immediately after purchasing the team. He hired a vaudevillian and his wife to coach the group, and he made sure there was a place on the team for one of his own daughters, Nancy, a 19-year-old freshman at Kent State at the time. Stepien was so bad overall as a team owner that the league named a rule after him, as a stipulation of something teams can’t do. His entire three-year stint in Cleveland was just like that. The Cavs hosted the All-Star game in Stepien’s first season, and then-NBA commissioner Larry O’Brien was already so leery of him that the only pregame event he permitted Stepien to host was a luncheon. At that luncheon, O’Brien was greeted by a Cavs “mascot” who was eating beer cans and lighting firecrackers.
Although the likes of Martin Schiller and Blake Ahearn would definitely be great candidates, they aren’t able to be on this list due to recently being hired to new gigs, with Schiller being hired by Zalgiris Kaunus and Ahearn being added to the Grizzlies’ coaching staff. Stan Heath: Among the four men on this list, Heath by far has the most coaching experience as he started his career way back in 1988-89 with Division II squad Hillsdale Chargers. After thirteen years as an assistant coach for various college teams, he was hired to lead Kent State before the 2001-02 season.
LeBron’s mentoring program, with about 1,100 students and their families from all over Akron, was started in 2011 with a mission of raising reading rates for children identified as “at risk” of failing to make it through school and graduate. Starting in the third grade, those students gain access to reading and math tutoring, after-school and summer programming, goodies from LeBron’s corporate sponsors (like Nike), letters and even phone calls from LeBron. And their families can get money for rent, or groceries, or even a TV from Samsung, not to mention help passing high school equivalency classes and finding jobs. It’s out of that group that the first batch of students will graduate from high school, and waiting for them, if they want, are scholarships to the University of Akron or Kent State, in northeast Ohio.

The Bruins kicked off their NCAA run Friday night with a convincing 97-80 win over Kent State, and Lonzo, to his credit, hasn't let the surrounding noise get to him. But Ball's father seems to have already turned his attention to the NBA. "Why shouldn't they (pick Lonzo first)? ... If you've got a kid who makes everybody better, you mean to tell me you wouldn't take him over a guy that's just averaging 40 points and does all this stuff and losing? The key to the game is winning. If you want a winner, you pick my boy," LaVar told TMZ.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. William Pakan, who serves as team doctor for Kent State University, told the Northeast Ohio Media Group that an athlete who receives multiple back injections in the span of 10 months, generally speaking, is "probably suffering from a degenerative change in his back, to some extent." Pakan has not treated James and agreed to speak generally about back injuries and injections. But he said that if an athlete such as James needed a third shot "over the next six months, it's a likely sign of perhaps a small disc degeneration or bulge." "At that stage, he may need to have something done (surgically), and when you start doing that, it's never like it was," Pakan said.
