Michael Scotto: The Portland Trail Blazers have hired James Brocato as Director of Basketball Innovation and Ameer Bahhur as Rip City Remix Head Coach for their G League affiliate, league sources told @hoopshype .
Alejandro Zuñiga: Michigan men’s basketball is hiring Dylan Murphy, most recently the head coach of the Osceola Magic NBA G League Team, as an assistant coach, I’ve learned. Murphy is a promising offensive mind who has led the Orlando Magic affiliate to two first-place conference finishes in his three seasons. His accolades there include NBA G League Coach of the Month honors in March 2025.
Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai said Friday that their pending divorce won’t impact the ownership of their sports empire, which includes the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, the WNBA’s New York Liberty and the economics of the Barclays Center. Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment (BSE), the parent company, also includes the Nets’ G League affiliate, a training center and a handful of other real estate investments. “Joe will remain chairman and Clara will remain vice chair of [BSE],” the couple said in a statement. “Joe will remain governor of the Brooklyn Nets and Clara will remain governor of the New York Liberty. They will continue to own and be stewards of the teams with professional management in place as they always have.”
Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai said their relationship over the years “evolved into more of a partnership, one of running their businesses and raising their children together.” They added the divorce is amicable and that they plan to involve their children in the long-term ownership of the sports teams. Joe Tsai’s shares in Alibaba, the Chinese tech giant that he co-founded, are also unaffected, according to the statement.

The New York Post was first to report on the divorce’s impact on the Tsais’ assets. The Tsais acquired a 49% ownership stake in the Nets and the Barclays Center rights in 2018. A year later they consolidated ownership at a $3.3 billion valuation, at the time the highest price ever paid for control of a U.S. sports franchise. The family bought the Liberty that same year, from James Dolan, for between $10 and $14 million, Sportico previously reported. Both assets have appreciated significantly. The Nets and arena assets are now worth $6.22 billion, per Sportico’s numbers. The Liberty are now worth $600 million.
Korean national team forward Choi Jun-yong announced Wednesday he will try to reach the world's top basketball league. At a press conference in Seoul, Choi said he will soon move to the United States to embark on a journey toward the National Basketball Association (NBA). "I have had this dream since I was in elementary school," said Choi, who has been playing in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) since 2016. "I have tackled my share of challenges in Korea, but I have always felt something was missing. I now realize I have wanted to go to the NBA for the longest time."
Choi, who recently underwent knee surgery, said he will continue his rehab in the United States starting in early August, and will try to land a deal with a team in the developmental G League by late August. "Before I made up my mind, I felt afraid. But now that I have decided to go for it, I no longer have any fear," Choi said. "No one my age has ever tried something like this. A part of me hopes that my decision will have a positive influence on Korean basketball and a younger generation of players. I want to hand out my fliers in a place where no one knows who I am, and I will see how far I can go. I want to show the world that Koreans can hoop, too."

Houston Rockets: OFFICIAL: The Rockets today announced they have signed free agent forward/center Oscar Tshiebwe. He spent his rookie season as a two-way player with Indiana in 2023-24 and the past two seasons on a two-way contract with Utah. In 49 career games with seven starts, Tshiebwe has averaged 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game.
