The Kings had defensive concerns about putting Curry next to the slight-of-frame Kevin Martin in their backcourt and were drawn to the way that the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Evans could get to the rim at will while holding his own on both ends (with the help of his 7-3 wingspan). Curry — who was also behind Rubio and Flynn on the organization’s wish list — was never truly in the running for that spot. And in the eyes of some, his presence that day made it all that much easier for the bigger, stronger Evans to showcase his physical superiority (as you can see below) and confirm the Kings’ leanings about the pick.

NBA veteran Kevin Martin is selling his million-dollar-plus homes in New Albany and in his hometown of Zanesville. Martin, who logged 12 years and 12,000 points in the league, moved back to Ohio in 2021 with his wife, Jill. They plan to remain in the New Albany area to raise their daughters, 2 and 6.

"This is probably at the top of the list for me," Martin said. "I'm not going to be in the NBA Hall of Fame, so the (Circle of Champions), this is the final hurrah for me (as a player). Just the greats that have been honored in there, like Michael Redd, LeBron (James), if you are in a category with them as an NBA player you've done something right in life."
While the final chapter of his playing days is now closed, the one on his basketball journey is still being composed. His remains a part owner of the Brisbane Bullets, of the NBL, in Australia, where he also serves in a front office role. He also remains active in buying and selling real estate in Florida, which he has done for 12 years. He said he has no regrets about retiring — and leaving millions on the table — when he still had a place in the league.
A former All Black and NBA player are among the names linked to a new Queenstown professional basketball franchise. Sources have told the Otago Daily Times Jeff Wilson and Kevin Martin are among a consortium behind the team, which also includes Dunedin-raised former Tall Black Chris Simpson.
Middleton became a minority owner of the Bullets on April 9, joining forces with former NBA sharpshooter Kevin Martin, who is the majority stakeholder of the Bullets. Chicago Bulls forward Thaddeus Young also owns a minority stake in the NBL team in Australia. “Khris got involved just through our little brotherhood that we have in the NBA,” Martin told The Undefeated. “The interest level was high. I couldn’t take everybody. So I just started talking to guys that I felt that was very smart off the court and then that’s when I ran into Thad and Khris. And Khris and Thad, they both just get it. If it wasn’t even basketball, they would just be successful doing something else.”
Marc Stein: The Bucks' Khris Middleton will soon be named as a @BrisbaneBullets minority owner in the @NBL , sources say, to become the latest NBA star to move into the ownership ranks in Australia. Middleton joins a group led by longtime NBA guard Kevin Martin, Brisbane's majority owner.

Marc Stein: Middleton, twice an NBA All-Star, is this season's second active player to join Brisbane ownership along with Chicago's Thaddeus Young. They are the latest entrants among current and former NBA pros to become majority or part-owners with teams in Australia's national league.
Marc Stein: The Bulls' Thaddeus Young is finalizing an agreement to purchase a minority ownership stake in Australia's @BrisbaneBullets , @NYTSports has learned. The deal will reunite Young and his former teammate Kevin Martin, former high-scoring NBA guard who is Brisbane's majority owner.
I always got along with Martin while covering him on the Kings beat for The Sacramento Bee, and went to his big day, in part, because he had been classy enough to drive an hour outside of town to attend my father’s funeral nearly two years before. I was surprised to see Lowry at the wedding, though, as there had been rumblings that he’d been particularly hard on Martin at times during the previous season. Lowry’s presence at the wedding said something about his ability to create bonds with teammates despite his tough-love approach.
Ray: Can you name an all-star five for the Kings from your years with the team, as well as an opponents’ all-star five? Gary Gerould: For the Kings, I have to include Mitch Richmond, Chris Webber and Peja Stojaković. I probably have to include DeMarcus Cousins. I know that is frontline-heavy and I have not done justice to guards. I thought about Reggie Theus; I thought about Mike Bibby; I thought about Kevin Martin. In view of the success that the Kings had in that eight season run where Bibby was involved, I would make him probably the fifth guy. So Richmond, Stojaković, Webber, Cousins, Bibby is the five that I would go with.
