The Suns are headed back toward being Arizona’s home team all year long. The Suns are in talks with Northern Arizona University to return training camp to the Flagstaff campus for the first time since 2004. Since then, the camp has been in Tucson 2005, 2007 and 2008), Italy (2006), the San Diego area (2009, 2010 and 2012) and Phoenix (after the 2011 lockout).
Word is that the Suns are planning on taking training camp back to Tucson, where they held it on the University of Arizona campus in 2005, ’07 and ’08. Camp moved to San Diego or La Jolla, Calif., in ensuing years except for a quick camp at Grand Canyon University after the 2011 lockout. Flagstaff was ideal altitude training for the Suns from 1986 to 2004, especially for uptempo systems, but there are ties to Tucson, where owner Robert Sarver grew up and attended UA. Tucson’s Westin La Paloma, where the Suns stayed for past camps there, is now owned by the Southwest Value Partners that Sarver founded.
Damon Stoudamire is returning to Tucson and will join the Arizona coaching staff, sources close to Memphis told GOAZCATS.com.
How much have you ever dealt with snow? If not, you better get ready. Derrick Williams: None at all. I’m an L.A.-area guy where there’s a lot of sunshine, a lot of beaches. Then going to Tucson, Arizona, where it’s 110 degrees in the summer. Now, I’m going to Minnesota where it can be negative at any time or any moment.
