Who's the most famous person that you've left on read? Norman Powell: Let me see... probably Nelly. Evan: Really? Norman Powell: Yeah. In San Diego. He was at the same club I was at, and he was super cool. I had a table right in front of the stage. They invited us down to the afterparty in the back room, and we had a great conversation. I was young still, so I was more in shock that I was even having an interaction with Nelly. We exchanged numbers and contacts, but I was kind of nervous to respond, you know? I didn’t know what to say. So... I just didn’t respond.

“Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream,” Butler said. “San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting, and setting a new standard for what women’s sports can be both on and off the pitch.”

Dalton Johnson: As @ShamsCharania reported on NBA Today, Jimmy Butler currently is having a team mini camp in San Diego and Jonathan Kuminga isn’t there, which is obviously understandable for someone who remains unsigned

Robertson, who did not respond to a request for comment for this story, wanted Leonard to be able to initially live in San Diego rather than in Los Angeles. (Leonard would commute via helicopter. He later moved to Los Angeles.) The Clippers agreed. He wanted Leonard to be able to skip some media obligations and team community events. The Clippers agreed. He wanted the team to promise to market Leonard individually. The Clippers agreed. He wanted Leonard to be able to bring some of his own people into the organization. The Clippers agreed. (A team source disputes the existence of some of these requests and the tone of some others.)

Alessandro Luigi Maggi: 🚨 Virtus Bologna is close to sign Kai Jones, I am told. The Bahamian big man played 12 NBA games with the Mavs and 28 with the Clippers last season. In the G League, he averaged 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in 15 games with San Diego.

Simmons made his latest return to play this week near San Diego in Brooklyn’s preseason opener. He scored two points, grabbed two rebounds and had three assists and a steal in a 115-106 Nets loss to the LA Clippers. It was his first game since Feb. 26. “I’m excited, I’m excited to build with these guys,” Simmons told The Athletic after Tuesday’s game. “Obviously, we don’t have a team that’s been together too long, so it’s a new experience for me. A lot of younger guys. But I’m looking forward to building with this team. I think Jordi speaks about 1 percent each day, getting better, and everyone buying in and buying into the concepts and listening and seeing where it takes us.”
