Anthony Slater: Jalen Duren is questionable for the Pistons tonight vs Warriors. Second night of back-to-back for Detroit. Cade Cunningham and Isaiah Stewart already out. Warriors playing their healthy vets (Draymond, Porzingis, Melton) on front side of back-to-back (at Atlanta tomorrow).

Draymond Green agaisnt 65-game rule: Draymond Green says Cade Cunningham is not going to make All-NBA team because of this dumba** 65-game rule: “It just doesn’t fix the issue. Like it does not fix the issue at all. And so here’s a guy who’s done everything right, has a collapsed lung, and he’s going to miss All-NBA because this dumba** rule that does not fix the issue. It’s just ridiculous. So here we go again with these unintended consequences.”

Draymond Green on Cade Cunningham injury: Man to see that happen is heartbreaking. So, I hope and pray that he’s able to get back, you know, and that’s why, like winning a championship is so fu*king hard to do. Because yes, you have to be really, really, really good, but you also have to be really, really, really lucky. And like it’s things like this that you just can’t account for, you know? Like that’s what makes it so hard. You got to be clicking at the right time. You got to be healthy at the right time. You got to actually be good enough. You need good fortune. You need good bounces, like it’s so hard.

Surely, Cade Cunningham has grander goals, such as a deep postseason run. According to NBA injury expert Jeff Stotts, the average time missed because of a collapsed lung is 26 days, which would set Cunningham for a return just before the playoffs. The Pistons will need him then more than they do during the close of the regular season. Playoff defenses, even low-seeded ones, lock in on weaknesses. If Detroit can neither shoot nor create, the offense could turn to sludge. And maybe an upset could follow.

Omari Sankofa II: JB on Cade’s injury: “Obviously it’s tough. Tough for Cade to go through what he’s going through right now … It’s everybody’s responsibility to keep moving forward, head down, 10 toes forward and go to work. And that’s what this team has done all year.”

Tim Bontemps: The Pistons officially announce Cade Cunningham will be re-evaluated in two weeks, meaning he’ll miss at least the next eight games. As @BobbyMarks42 said earlier, he needs to play another five to make All-NBA and there’s 14 games left for Detroit.
Jeff Stotts: Cade Cunningham Injury Update: A pneumothorax (collapsed lung) is much more common in contact sports like the NFL but there have been several cases in the NBA including Gerald Wallace, CJ McCollum (2x), & Terrence Jones. Average time lost? 26 days (~10.8 games)

NBA Courtside: Shams on Cade Cunningham collapsed lung: “He’s expected to miss an extended period of time. The Pistons are not quite sure how long it will be. Could be weeks. There is optimism he could be back for the playoffs”

Tim Bontemps: CJ McCollum has dealt with this a couple times in the past, missing three weeks in 2023 and six weeks in 2021. Three weeks from today would be heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Six weeks from today would be near the end of the first round of the playoffs.

Shams Charania: Just in: Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a collapsed lung and is expected to miss an extended period of time, sources tell ESPN.
Kevin O'Connor: Cade Cunningham's collapsed lung could keep him sidelined for the rest of the regular season, but not the playoffs, if past recovery timelines are any indication: CJ McCollum, 2023: Missed 12 games over 3.5 weeks CJ McCollum, 2021: 18 games, 6 weeks Terrence Jones, 2015: 6 games, 2 weeks Gerald Wallace, 2009: 7 games, 3 weeks Average of 10.8 games over 3.6 weeks. The Pistons have 14 games remaining with one month until the playoffs. Cade has played only 61 games. He may lose out on MVP and All-NBA eligibility if he doesn't return sooner.
Tom Haberstroh: Terrence Jones is Glass Half Full Case. In 2015, Jones suffered a collapsed lung with the Rockets and coincidentally, it occurred March 19. He returned to the starting lineup just seven games later and played well in the playoffs. Hope for a similar trajectory w/ Cade.

Bobby Marks: Cunningham has 60 qualified games played and is currently short of the All-NBA criteria. The Pistons have 14 games remaining. Cunningham earned All-NBA last season and as a result, saw his rookie max extension increase from $222M to $269M.
