With the salary cap situation the Raptors are in, March 15 was the first day they could add a player at the pro-rated minimum salary and stay under the luxury tax threshold, which was the impetus for Toronto trading Ochai Agbaji at the deadline in February. It doesn’t sound like the Raptors are in a rush to sign a player for the remainder of the season, but they are planning to use the roster spot and the flexibility they have to sign someone to a 10-day contract. Just looking at the calendar, if the Raptors add a 10-day signee on Wednesday before they play the Chicago Bulls, they could have him on their roster for a stretch of six games: their entire five-game west-coast road trip and their first game back in Toronto on March 27 against the New Orleans Pelicans. As for who? That’s a different question. The Raptors have seen some encouraging signs from Markelle Fultz with Raptors 905, but you get the sense they’d like to see him get closer to NBA game shape after a long lay-off before committing there. We’ll see.

Ian Begley: Nets get 19 points from Day’Ron Sharpe and 18 points from Ochai Ogbagi (both off the bench) in home win over Memphis. Nets (17-47) have won two straight and now have the 4th-worst record in the NBA, a 1/2 game better than the Wizards.

The Toronto-Brooklyn-Clippers trade is official. If the teams waived physicals (which seems likely), it means Chris Paul and Ochai Agbaji could be traded again before 3 ET.

Josh Lewenberg: Small Agbaji story that speaks to his character. I was standing by the court before his 1st game in Toronto; he walked over, shook my hand and said "Ochai." Me, awkwardly & not used to NBA players coming over to introduce themselves: "I know." Enjoyed covering him & wish him luck

Yossi Gozlan: The Brooklyn Nets now have a whopping 21 second-round picks through 2032 by taking on Ochai Agbaji. They can absorb him with their $15.3 million in cap space, leaving them with $8.9 million. The Nets will need to create a roster spot for this trade.

Shams Charania: The Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors have agreed on a multi-team trade sending Chris Paul to the Raptors and Ochai Agbaji, a 2032 Raptors second-rounder and cash to the Nets, sources tell ESPN.

Shams Charania: The Raptors will not require Chris Paul to report to the team and could still discuss trades involving him over the next day. Toronto is now out of the tax. Brooklyn picks up an asset and cash to cover Agbaji's salary. The Clippers clear a roster spot and save $7 million in tax.

Bobby Marks: Brooklyn had up to $15M in cap space to absorb the $6.4M Ochai Agbaji expiring contract. The trade puts Toronto under the luxury tax.

Michael Scotto: Domantas Sabonis trade talks between the Kings and Raptors, which would include RJ Barrett and Ochai Agbaji to Sacramento, have paused. Toronto is concerned about giving up too much first-round draft pick compensation to move Jakob Poeltl to a third team. Reporting on @YESNetwork

MrBuckBuck: Chris Haynes: "I'm told that the holdup is that the deal (Centered around RJ Barrett and Ochai Agbaji) is that the Kings want a 1st round pick while the Raptors are only offering them 2nds." Video via: reddit.com/r/nba/comments

Agbaji not taking the floor at all on Friday night in the Raptors' loss to the Celtics amplified the speculation that is beginning to waft around the team with the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaching. Was he being held out because a deal was in the works and the Raptors didn’t want to risk him being injured? Per sources, that wasn’t the case, and it was a matter of Rajaković wanting to create more runway to evaluate some of the other wings that have struggled to find playing time, such as Martin, Lawson, and Battle, the second-year sharpshooter who has been further down on the depth chart than Agbaji most of the year.
