According to league sources, most of the discussions the Raptors were involved with dated back a month ago, and involved trading the No. 9-overall pick in the draft, along with salary — which why RJ Barrett’s name was often mentioned — for an impact player. The Raptors talked to Boston about Derrick White, Memphis about Desmond Bane and Phoenix about Kevin Durant.
Ryan Wolstat: Fun fact: Sandro Mamukelashvili (going to take a while to learn that one) played with new teammate RJ Barrett at Montverde. Scottie Barnes went to the school after them.
Among the veterans currently being monitored leaguewide for potential inclusion in trades this offseason: Miami's Andrew Wiggins, Toronto's RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, Utah's Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson in addition to Collins, Washington's Marcus Smart and Milwaukee's Pat Connaughton.
Toronto has also continued to gauge the trade market on RJ Barrett, league sources told HoopsHype. Barrett, who’s owed $57.32 million over the next two seasons, averaged a career-high 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
League sources say the Raptors have explored a range of trade concepts that could involve a framework including any combination of RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl and the No. 9 overall pick. While nothing appears imminent, there is internal openness to parting with one of Barrett or Quickley in a larger package, and Poeltl could be included depending on the structure. Additionally, Toronto has explored scenarios involving trading down from No. 9, rather than exiting the first round altogether. A clear motivation to make changes is evident.

Will Toronto actually go beyond all the noise about their willingness to gamble on Durant without a long-term contract commitment to make a determined push for KD? Sources say that the Raptors would be willing to part with either RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley for a significant roster upgrade. Several league figures with knowledge of the Raptors' thinking have likewise asserted that they could show a willingness to move center Jakob Poeltl as well ... provided that the trade in question brought back Durant. The Raptors' No. 9 pick is also increasingly viewed as perhaps the most likely top-10 pick in the draft to be traded. My sense is that Toronto would prefer to simply trade down rather than trade out of the first-round completely. Perhaps there is some swap potential in a deal with Phoenix and the Suns' No. 29 overall selection.
Doug Smith: I don’t know if it will happen but I do know there is mutual interest between Antetokounmpo and the Raptors. The wild card is the cost. But I also think the Raptors are uniquely placed to make an attractive offer that won’t ruin their franchise or roster. I would make the case that a logjam at the wings makes them deep enough that if they had to pay even two out of Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, Ja’Kobe Walter, RJ Barrett, Jonathan Mogbo would still leave enough to fill out a pretty good team with promising young players still developing. Plus, they have all their picks, so giving a first-rounder every year for, say, four years, leaves enough.
Josh Lewenberg: The season is done for Immanuel Quickley (rest), RJ Barrett (rest) & Jakob Poeltl (hand), who have all been ruled out for tomorrow’s finale in San Antonio. Scottie Barnes is not on the injury report; it’ll be Game No. 65 for him. Walter, Ingram, Dick, Rhoden, Chomche are out too
Blake Murphy: RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley will rest Friday. Poeltl, Walter, Ingram, Dick, Chomche remain out Jared Rhoden is questionable with a right shoulder sprain. Raptors also down two roster spots with Swider and Robinson cut.

Michael Granger: Raptors sweep season series vs. Sixers in with 127-109 win. RJ Barrett with 31-5-5. Ja’Kobe Walter with 17-8-4 and 3/5 on 3s; Jamison Battle with 16 and 7, with 4/8 from 3. Fellow rookies Jonathan Mogbo (13) and Jamal Shead (11) give Raptors four rookies in double figures for first time in franchise history.
Blake Murphy: Jakob Poeltl will rest tonight. RJ Barrett remains out with an illness. Walter, Dick, Ingram, Chomche remain out. Rhoden is with Raptors 905.
RJ Barrett was discussed in trade talks for Brandon Ingram with New Orleans, but the Pelicans preferred the expiring contract of Bruce Brown and stretch-five center Kelly Olynyk, who’s owed $13.45 million next season, league sources told HoopsHype. With Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones already on the wing, the Pelicans didn’t view Barrett as a suitable fit for their roster as talks would have necessitated finding a third team, sources said.
