Most likely to be traded: Guerschon Yabusele, Pacome Dadiet, Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek. New York has been on the hunt for a proven ballhandler for its second unit and big-man insurance. To get either one of those without breaking up its core group, these are the names the Knicks would most likely have to part with. Dadiet, a recent first-round pick, doesn’t play and the Knicks, who are close to the second apron, can’t take in more money than they send out, so they might have to add another salary to Yabusele depending on who they trade for. The same goes for Kolek, except he’s shown some flashes here and there in Year 2. Clarkson is on a veteran minimum after getting bought out by the Jazz last offseason. He signed with the Knicks, expecting to play. However, he’s been out of the rotation. It feels more likely that Clarkson gets bought out than traded if he and New York part ways, but his salary could be useful in a small deal.

There is a realistic chance that New York will make a trade. As I’ve previously reported, per league sources, the Knicks are open to moving both Guerschon Yabusele and Pacôme Dadiet. Together, those two players will make $8.3 million this season. So, for example, New York could trade them for a player or players who make that exact amount.

James L. Edwards III: Mike Brown just called a timeout and walked out to halfcourt to have words (looked like not nice ones) with Pacome Dadiet. Never really seen a coach walk out that far before.

You don't get a lot of playing time, and you're also part of a team that's competing for the title. There are a lot of players ahead of you. How do you manage to find a balance between learning from your more experienced teammates while remaining ready in case the coach decides to call upon your services? Pacôme Dadiet: Right now, I'm trying to arrive before everyone else and leave after everyone else. I also have the G-League to stay ready, to keep my rhythm. It's more about managing the mental aspect to be ready when they call my name. That said, is it difficult to put into practice? Pacôme Dadiet: It's definitely not easy, because I want to play. But that's part of basketball. It's not the first time I've been in this situation. I'm used to being a young player on a professional team. I know what it's like and I know how hard it takes to earn playing time.

Ian Begley: The Knicks picked up the 2026-27 rookie scale team option on 2024 first-round pick Pacome Dadiet, per SNY sources.

To keep both Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet on their Opening Night roster, as we've covered extensively, New York is going to have to trade someone. And the focus for that trade has been on former first-round pick Pacome Dadiet ever since the Knicks signed the two veterans to Exhibit 9 contracts. Sources tell The Stein Line that Knicks, in fact, have indeed already called several teams to gauge interest in Dadiet.

Per multiple league sources, the Knicks have had conversations with teams about Pacome Dadiet. The 20-year-old Frenchman is New York’s most intriguing prospect, even if he still has a way to go to be a regular contributor. For what it’s worth, I’ve also heard Dadiet has had a good summer behind the scenes and has made it harder for New York to potentially trade him.

If New York were going to move on from one of its youngsters, Dadiet would be the most likely to get a worthwhile return (I can’t imagine it would be for more than a second-round pick or two). It’s understandable why the Knicks would prioritize proven veterans over one of their young players. The time for a title is now. However, I’d also have some hesitation parting with Dadiet for someone who might not be a regular rotation player. It is possible that Dadiet outperforms Shamet this preseason and New York gives the final roster spot to Brogdon and then continues to develop Dadiet behind the scenes, throwing him rotation minutes here and there. Things don’t appear to be heading that way right now, but the Knicks have only had one week of camp.

Stefan Bondy: Update on Pacome Dadiet’s injury from yesterday — I heard it’s his big toe and nothing major. No structural damage.
