Gunfire erupted Wednesday after former Lakers player Christian Wood fired several rounds during an attempted home invasion in Sherman Oaks, LAPD tells NBC4 Investigates. Police said people were inside the one when a group of people tried to break into the house on Otsego Street by smashing the back door at around 1 p.m.. Wood, who was inside the two-story house, confronted the would-be burglars before running outside and firing 3 to 4 rounds at the ground, police said. The suspects were scared off and fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction.
We're only a few days removed from the Los Angeles Police Department seizing an estimated $500,000 worth of Nike sneakers from Cool Kicks' warehouse that were reportedly stolen from a train cargo. Now, the authorities have cracked down on more stolen sneakers worth over $1 million.
The LAPD posted on Instagram yesterday that its Commercial Crimes Division and Cargo Theft Unit recovered an estimated $1,460,000 in stolen train cargo on Monday. Alejandro Aguilar-Espinoza, the suspect, was found with various Nike shoes, Milwaukee tools, and electronic equipment in his Los Angeles home.
The other five people charged are as follows: Israeli suspected organized crime figure Yevgeni Gershman, 49, Evgenni Tourevski, 48, Allan Austria, 52, Yarin Cohen, 27, and Ievgen Krachun, 43. Along with Arenas, those five were detained without incident by LAPD, Homeland Security, and the IRS. If convicted, the defendants face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each count. Arenas was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon after appearing in a Los Angeles court for the first time. Trial is scheduled for September 23.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene in Woodland Hills, California, after a domestic disturbance call, and Hayes was arrested. In June 2022, he was sentenced to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service and a year of weekly domestic violence classes. The NBA did not discipline Hayes following its initial investigation into the arrest. "There has already been an extensive investigation that we cooperated with the league on, and as that investigation reopens, we will continue to do so," a spokesperson for Hayes told ESPN on Saturday. Hayes also was ordered to pay restitution at the time, according to Los Angeles City Attorney's Office spokesman Rob Wilcox.

According to a release from the Los Angeles Police Department, their investigation into Rashid Byrd began in 2019 after a victim came forward to report she had been sexually assaulted.

Cops tell TMZ Sports ... it all went down at around midnight, just a couple hours after the Lakers game had ended. According to an LAPD spokesperson, the stop was initiated after the vehicle allegedly had improper plates.

It all seemed cordial, according to videos of the interaction ... with Schroder, at times, sporting a big smile on his face. "I don't know what happened," the 29-year-old told a camera person during the stop. "I'm still surprised." The LAPD says someone received a citation for improper plates during the stop, though it's unclear who the alleged violator was. Video shows Schroder was allowed to leave the scene without any issue.

An LAPD sergeant violated department policy by kneeling on the neck of NBA player Jaxson Hayes while arresting him in response to a call about a domestic dispute last July, the Los Angeles Police Commission ruled Tuesday. After Hayes, a 6-foot-11 center for the New Orleans Pelicans, was taken to the ground by police outside a Woodland Hills home, Sgt. Darren Holst began kneeling on his neck.
