A former NBA player and actor was sentenced to 90 years to life in prison on Friday for a series of violent sexual assaults, some of which occurred in Los Angeles County, authorities said. Bryant family crash photos: Los Angeles County agrees to $28.85-million settlement
Los Angeles County agreed Tuesday to pay $28.85 million to the family of Kobe Bryant, concluding three years of litigation that began after deputies shared graphic photos of the 2020 helicopter crash that killed the Lakers star, his daughter and seven others. The settlement agreement filed in federal court also resolves pending litigation originally filed in state court and adds to the $15 million a jury had already awarded to the basketball star’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, after a trial in federal court last year.
Mira Hashmall, the lead lawyer representing Los Angeles County in the case, called the settlement "fair and reasonable" and said that it "resolves all outstanding issues related to pending legal claims in state court, future claims by the Bryant children, and other costs, with each party responsible for its respective attorneys' fees."

Miles Bridges' hearing on felony domestic abuse charges moved to September 29
Miles Bridges’ preliminary hearing on felony domestic abuse charges in California has again been rescheduled. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told The Charlotte Observer on Friday that Bridges’ court date has been moved to Sept. 29. That’s the third rescheduling, and it threatens to cost Bridges part of the NBA preseason.

The $16 million verdict that Vanessa Bryant was awarded by a federal jury on Wednesday is set to be reduced to $15 million after a juror discovered an error on the verdict form and informed the court about it. Bryant, the widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, prevailed in her civil trial against Los Angeles County Wednesday after the jury of nine unanimously found the county liable for damages to her and her fellow plaintiff Chris Chester, who was awarded $15 million by the same jury.
