The South Bay Lakers have officially acquired forward Stanley Johnson in a trade with the Rip City Remix. In exchange, they sent the returning player rights to guard Devonte' Graham, forward Vincent Valerio-Bodon, and a 2026 second-round draft pick.

A veteran of 456 games in the NBA, Stanley Johnson is nearing a deal with Anadolu Efes, per Eurohoops sources. Johnson, 28, played for the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, New Orleans Pelicans, and Detroit Pistons in the league based in North America. After spending the 2023-24 campaign in the G League with the Stockton Kings, using his overseas options led to the Istanbul outfit. Reacting to parting ways with Will Clyburn, Efes has been scanning the market, focusing the search on forwards.

LeBron James has seen just about every defense imaginable throughout his career and has had his fair share of postseason battles with players. On the “Mind the Game” podcast with JJ Redick, James named Stanley Johnson as one of the more underrated defenders he faced during their playoff series in 2018: “I think it was my first year back in Cleveland on a return and it was our first-round opponent, I think we played Detroit, if I’m not mistaken. I think KCP was on that team, (Andre) Drummond was on that team, a couple of other guys was on that team, obviously Moose (Greg Monroe) was on that team, I believe. I think Stan (Van Gundy) was coaching, if I’m not mistaken. I think Stan was coaching that team. But back to your question, Stanley Johnson he earned my respect in that first-round series. Stanley Johnson, he had the lateral movement, he had the physicality. You can tell the coaching staff told him ‘Don’t worry about the schemes.’ I feel like the same thing with Dort, don’t worry about the schemes yet. Everybody’s switching but you. You get through every screen. If you weakside lowman, you have no responsibility, you don’t pull in. You’re basically playing a box-and-one. There’s a lot more guys, obviously, I would give credit to defensively but that’s the one guy off the top of my head. It’s not recent memory, it’s 10 years ago but it’s recent enough. But Stanley definitely possessed those skills in our league, for sure.”

Michael Carter-Williams, Stanley Johnson lead Team USA list for AmeriCup qualifiers
USA Basketball today announced the 12-man roster and updated coaching staff for the February 2024 USA Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team, which will host Cuba in Kissimmee, Florida, on Feb. 22 before traveling to Cuba for a contest on Feb. 25.
The February 2024 USA AmeriCup Qualifying Team includes Jordan Bell, Deonte Burton, Michael Carter-Williams, Will Davis, RaiQuan Gray, Dusty Hannahs, Matthew Hurt, Jayce Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Elfrid Payton, Jahmi’us Ramsey and Justin Wright-Foreman.
In 2015, Detroit was deciding between Stanley Johnson and Devin Booker. It took the former. In 2018, the Pistons selected Henry Ellenson. He was out of the NBA by the age of 24. In 2017, Van Gundy and company decided to go with Luke Kennard over Donovan Mitchell. Stockton Kings trade for Stanley Johnson
Michael Scotto: Source: The Sacramento Kings G-League affiliate, Stockton Kings, are trading for the rights to forward Stanley Johnson from the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Johnson, 27, played for the Spurs last season and shot 45% on 3-pointers. The Sacramento Kings currently have an open roster spot.
