About $23,000 worth of "jewelry and precious metals" …

About $23,000 worth of "jewelry and precious metals" was taken from Doncic's house, according to a Dallas police report. Doncic's business manager told ESPN's Tim MacMahon that the Mavericks point guard and his family were not home when the burglary happened. "They are not targeting poor people. They are targeting rich, famous billionaires. Sports stars," said Kent Moyer, who runs the World Protection Group security firm. "It is very easy for a bad guy to find out where you live." Finding where a prominent athlete lives often can be as easy as searching publicly available records online. Doncic's home address, for example, came up in a simple Google search. "When you see somebody on television and realize they're not home, does that open up potential?" NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said during a December league meeting. "So, yes, there are things that all of us can do to take precautions -- and should do," he said.

Stephen A. Smith will be recording a podcast, ESPN will be broadcasting live, and every major sports commissioner, including the NBA’s Adam Silver and the NFL’s Roger Goodell, will be on various panels, as will various star athletes. Trading card giant Topps, which is owned by Fanatics, will be dropping exclusive products, including a special collection from rapper Travis Scott. Fanatics is spending $10 million for various activations at the event, including a WWE experience that will let fans experience the thrill of making an entrance like a pro-wrestle and a “kids zone” where Tom Brady will pass footballs to young tots.

In the past, ESPN had executives in place who could mollify the NFL. Over the past two years, though, ESPN did not. Skipper did not engage with the people who matter at the NFL, like Goodell and Brian Rolapp, executive vice president of media, sources said. Skipper, who was known to favor basketball and his relationship with Adam Silver over the NFL and its leaders, never fully engaged in the partnership. He did not socialize with or develop close ties to influential owners, like Patriots owner Robert Kraft and the Cowboys’ Jones. It seemed like the folksy Southerner had little in common with the people at the top of the NFL.

The legalization of sports betting in the United States has been a hot topic, especially since the Supreme Court agreed in late June to hear New Jersey's appeal in the state's long-running quest to offer legalized sports betting. It came to the forefront again Tuesday night in New York City when the commissioners of all four major U.S. sports leagues (Roger Goodell, Adam Silver, Rob Manfred, Gary Bettman) gathered for a panel titled "GameChangers: Creating the Future of Sports" at the Paley Center for Media. "My sense is the law will change in the next few years in the United States," Silver said when asked about gambling.

Veteran NBA front office executives we’ve spoken to recently are bewildered at the way NFL commissioner Roger Goodell handled the ball-pressure issue with Tom Brady and the Patriots. And it looked even worse to them in contrast to the NBA. Said one exec: “I can’t believe this became an actual ‘incident.’ I’m sure Adam (Silver, the current commissioner) would handle it right, but I know what (former commissioner) David (Stern) would have done. As soon as there was a question or complaint raised by another team, David would have been on the phone (to the accused club) saying, ‘Here’s what I’m being told. If this is going on, it stops now.’ That’s it. Over and done.”

Mark Cuban, billionaire entrepreneur and the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, joined The Fred Roggin Show to talk about Roger Goodell’s suspension of Adrian Peterson, looking the other way on off-the-court problems, competitive balance in the NBA, and more. While Cuban admits that 36 years old is not as old as it once was, thanks to better training programs and advanced in medical science, he also says that he hopes Kobe Bryant’s Lakers stay noncompetitive for a long time. As far as the Lakers go, I think there are going to be a lot of teams that are saying, “I’ve got a ton of cap room,” and signing three big free agents to come play for them. Los Angeles has always been considered a destination city, so maybe they feel that’s a valid strategy. You know me, Fred. Personally, I just hope they suck forever.
