League sources tell The Stein Line that the Blazers, meanwhile, have expressed interest in Minnesota assistant coach Micah Nori in addition to previously reported candidates Jared Dudley (Denver) and Hetzel … while Portland-based Sean Highkin reported recently that Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean is also on Portland's list
Michael Scotto: Sources: The Trail Blazers interviewed Jared Dudley for their head coaching position. Dudley is the lead assistant coach for the Nuggets. He was also an assistant coach for the Mavericks. He spent 14 NBA seasons with the Bobcats, Suns, Clippers, Bucks, Wizards, Nets, and Lakers.
Other potential candidates, according to a source familiar with the search are Sean Sweeney, Chris Jent and Jared Dudley. All three of these candidates are coaching teams still in the playoffs.
All the while, behind the scenes, Dundon has been surveying the coaching landscape. According to whispers around the NBA, Dundon is intrigued by a smattering of potential candidates, which some believe includes former players Jared Dudley and Royal Ivey, who are assistant coaches with Denver and Houston, respectively, and Saint Louis Billikens coach Josh Schertz.

In the meantime, Nuggets teammates and coaches have pedaled Murray’s All-Star candidacy instead of him lobbying for himself. Dudley was able to join his chorus of supporters on Wednesday. “They say historically that he’s started slow,” said Dudley, who came to Adelman’s staff from Dallas. “I haven’t been here. I haven’t seen it. Anytime I’ve played against him or coached against him, he never started slow against us. But I just think it’s a testament to the summer work he’s done. You can tell by his body. … I think the big thing for him and for us is, if the team is good, we can get two or three guys in. I think that where we’re at, how we’re playing. Everyone knows he’s taken a whole other level up. His leadership. Defensively, he’s super-aggressive. And I hope he gets it. I think that as a team, if we win, he’ll be there.”
Now Jared Dudley has been hired to run the defense, and even if the base scheme remains the same, Adelman has labeled himself a believer in zone. He thinks if the Nuggets work at it more consistently, they can use it more often during the regular season. “(Dudley) kind of started talking to me in the summer about the defense,” Brown said. “We’re just being more physical, picking up (the ball-handler at) three-quarters court, depending obviously on who you are. Just being more physical and being more assertive.”

Dudley, who retired as a Los Angeles Laker in 2021, had one of his best individual seasons in Washington alongside Wall, averaging 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 42% from three. "One of the best and most talented teammates I have ever played with! Just special! The Master of getting guys paid! Including myself!" Dudley wrote under Wall's farewell Instagram post. "Thank you, John Wall! Helluva Career!"
Marc Stein: Dallas has been in discussions with former Lakers/Cavaliers/Raptors assistant coach Phil Handy and Jones to fill staff vacancies created by the departures of Jared Dudley to Denver and God Shammgod to Orlando. As reported here last week, Handy also has interest from the Knicks.
Jared Dudley: Thankful For Coach Kidd and Nico for giving me the opportunity to go from a Player to front bench coach.. Excited for my next chapter with Coach Adelman and the Denver Nuggets! Let’s get it!

Shams Charania: Dallas Mavericks assistant Jared Dudley is finalizing a deal to become the top assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets under David Adelman, Andy Miller of Klutch Sports tells ESPN. Dudley has been on Mavs' staff since 2021 after a 14-year NBA career.
Marc Stein: Jason Kidd will now have two former NBA head coaches on his Mavs staff next season: Frank Vogel and Jay Triano. Vogel still has three seasons left on his Suns HC deal. Denver is in advanced talks to hire Dallas' Jared Dudley to be No. 1 assistant to Nuggets coach David Adelman.
