Francis Tiafoe, whose sporting allegiance lies with the Washington, D.C. teams, first pretended not to know who the Knicks were before suggesting he hoped to use some of their positive vibes to help him in this year’s U.S. Open. “Hopefully I can go off that Knicks energy, even though I’m a huge DC Sports fan. That was nuts, man. What a run. Happy for them,” Tiafoe said. He said that he had reached out to Ben Stiller, a fan of Tiafoe’s and has previously been spotted at events cheering him on, to congratulate him on the Knicks’ victory.
Naomi Osaka channeled former NBA star Allen Iverson before her US Open first-round victory over Anastasia Zakharova on Monday. Osaka made her usual fashionable entrance for her tournament opener, which she won in straight sets. The two-time US Open champion emerged on to the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium wearing a long, white skirt and a gray, hooded robe featuring newspaper clippings about her.
She then removed her hood revealing her cornrows under a headband, Iverson’s signature look when he was the NBA MVP while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. She also wore an arm sleeve, a look made popular by Iverson during his playing career.
San Antonio native Jordan Clarkson crossed paths with rising tennis star Alex Eala at the U.S. Open on Thursday, bringing together two prominent Filipino athletes from different corners of the sports world. ESPN shared video of the meeting on social media, showing the New York Knicks guard and Eala congratulating each other and bonding over their shared Filipino heritage.

Clarkson, who has represented the Philippines in international basketball, agreed. "When you got Filipino blood, [you] take the whole country with you, the whole pride," Clarkson said. The two also discussed representing Filipino culture through their respective sports. "We're doing a lot for the country and the culture," Clarkson said.
