Connor Letourneau: Gary Payton II is working toward finishing his degree at Oregon State. Said one silver lining to his injury is he has more time to work on papers, etc.
Tres Tinkle has until May 29 to pull his name from the draft pool and return to Oregon State for his senior year. Wayne Tinkle thought it was likely his son would explore NBA draft interest. It’s a decision made easier as Tres Tinkle completed his OSU degree in speech communication last week. “He’s had two good years back-to-back, he’s graduating, see what’s out there,” Wayne Tinkle said.

The 6-8, 240-pounder, who was born on Oct. 19, 1955, in Bakersfield, Calif. and also starred at Oregon State, played five seasons for the Sonics from 1978-83, averaging 13.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 329 regular season games. He averaged 12.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in 17 playoff games for Seattle in 1979 as the Sonics beat the Lakers, Suns and the then-Washington Bullets to win what was Seattle’s only NBA title in the 41 years the Sonics played in Seattle and also set a team record that season by going 13-13 from the field in a game against Cleveland, ultimately hitting 17 straight shots.
Robinson is another longshot Knicks candidate, according to a team source. The former Oregon State head coach — and brother of former First Lady Michelle Obama — currently serves as the Knicks’ VP of player and organization development.
We also spoke about his free throws. He shot a mediocre but acceptable 53.1 percent from the line at Oregon State, where he went to school, but he cratered from the free throw line in his three years in the G-League. In 2014-15, he shot 37.5 percent, in 2015-16 he shot 28.6 percent, and in 2016-17 he shot 37.7 percent. "I had a real bad mental state about free throws. I air balled once last year and I couldn’t get over the hump. It lasted all season, it went way longer than it should have." "In college I air balled but I still shot 57 percent. As far as a mental block in basketball I don’t think I’ve ever had a bigger problem than that. I think I’m good now though."
Jon Rothstein: Stephen Thompson Jr. will return to Oregon State next season, per a source. Entered 2017 NBA Draft without an agent.
