Caleb Martin credits J. Cole, a “humble dude” who rarely gives interviews, for facilitating his return to the league. “He just wants to be regular so bad,” Martin said. “He just is really that genuine, just that chill and he’s really a normal guy, but he’s a great human being, bro. He’s authentic and he’s always looking out for everybody.”

Caleb Martin has started in nine of the Mavericks’ last 11 games and has gained more confidence from beyond the arc, shooting 52.4% while averaging 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals. “I think he’s just starting to get his feet back under him,” teammate Naji Marshall said. “He’s being the Caleb we all used to. Proud of him. A lot of people don’t make it back from what he was going through and dealing with, so, just proud to see him out there balling, and I hope he can keep it up ‘cause we need it.”

Marc Stein: Klay Thompson, Caleb Martin, D'Angelo Russell, in this apron era, it's hard for me to see teams chasing those contracts or being willing to take on those contracts. So, I've been saying it, I think, all season. Daniel Gafford probably has the most external interest at the moment because he's a big man. Teams in this league are on the lookout. Numerous teams in this league are always on the lookout, hoping to add proven size and his contract was signed to the dollar the most they could extend him, but also keep him trade eligible during the season. But I would think teams out there have to be noticing the all-around excellent play from Naji Marshall. Will the Mavs field interest in him? It's the kind of thing where when you're in the Mavs position, you have to be open to listening to anything.

As the Mavericks sent four defenders his way on the last possession, Jokic made the read and kicked the ball to the corner. Peyton Watson got a wide-open look at the buzzer, but the three-pointer didn't fall. "I kind of offered myself in a little pocket area. I turned around, and I got what was kind of behind [Caleb] Martin, and I saw Peyton in the corner. I think it was a really good shot. It didn't go in," the Serbian superstar said after the game. "I think it's the right play to do, and I will do it again," Jokic added.

Landon Thomas: Jason Kidd said Brandon Williams and Caleb Martin went through practice. Daniel Gafford got some individual workouts in. Dante Exum was out.

Anthony Davis, who has taken on a mentoring role, said he’s been impressed by how quickly Flagg has adjusted to the professional pace. Davis said Flagg’s feel for the game is far beyond his age and that his ability to absorb feedback instantly is what separates him “He looks comfortable,” Davis said. “He can block shots and he can jump, he can rebound. He can defend one through five. I had some conversations with him. I didn’t have vets like he does — like with myself, Klay, Caleb, Kyrie — where you can go to them and talk. I told him today in practice, we were doing a drill and he was hesitant about kicking the guy out, and I said, you’re very great defensively where you have the ability to grab him and throw him and tell him to get to his position. And we’ve got to be able to do that, not just because he’s a rookie, but because we want to win.”

Keith Smith: Factoring in unlikely bonuses for Caleb Martin and PJ Washington (unlikely bonuses count towards the apron calculation), Dallas was just under $600K under their second-apron hard cap. After waiving-and-stretching Olivier-Maxence Prosper, the Mavs are almost $3.6M under the second apron. That's enough room to sign Dante Exum to a vet minimum deal at $2.3M.
