Sarah Kustok: Talk to me about two of the bigs you work with now with Brooklyn Nets on a daily basis, who we've seen just absolutely flourish and having tremendous years: Day'Ron Sharpe, Nick Claxton. First, if we ask Day'Ron what one of the most important things you have taught him is, what do you think he said? Juwan Howard: That's a great question… Patience. Kustok: That's what he said! Howard: He did? Kustok: Yes, [laughter] he said patience. Howard: Really? Kustok: He said patience. He was talking about when he catches the ball, taking his time, embracing the contact, but he said patience.

They’ve already checked in on another Mavericks centre, Daniel Gafford, per a source, while Orlando’s Goga Bitadze and Brooklyn’s Day’Ron Sharpe are other names to monitor. That way, they could see how this group holds up in meaningful games during the spring before reassessing in the off-season, when it’s easier to make significant change.

But that’s the Ujiri playbook. Sources within MLSE insist that Webster has full autonomy and is under no pressure to take a big swing in his first at-bat. But in declining to elevate him to the president’s role and dangling the title over his head like a carrot, this was always going to be a make-or-break season for Toronto’s GM, as well as several others on his staff and in the organization.

Brian Lewis: Michael Porter Jr. is back for the #Nets tonight after sitting the front end of a back-to-back. But Day'Ron Sharpe (illness/throat contusion), Egor Dëmin (left plantar fascia injury management) and Cam Thomas (left hamstring injury management) are all out vs. the #Suns. #NBA

“Yeah, one thing we know is Day’Ron is going to play extremely hard. And you know going from the minutes he’s played to pretty much 30 minutes, you know your body has to adjust to that,” coach Jordi Fernández. “So it’s a great opportunity for him to play those minutes. But also being careful with that. “[After] the shorter stints, I try to keep watching how he’s reacted. And rebounding — nine. I still think he could have got more and a little more efficient, but I really, really liked how hard he played, how engaged he was and how he took advantage of the opportunity. So, very proud of him.”

It’s worth noting that Boston also planned to pursue Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe in free agency, league sources told HoopsHype.

Keith Smith: Day'Ron Sharpe waived his implied no-trade clause in his new deal with the Brooklyn Nets, a league source told @spotrac . Sharpe was eligible for a NTC because his deal includes an option (team option in this case) on the second season.

Michael Scotto: Update: The Brooklyn Nets gave Day’Ron Sharpe more money. Sharpe has now signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal, league sources told @hoopshype . Deal includes a second-year team option. Sharpe averaged 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game last season for the Nets.

Brooklyn Nets: Day’Ron’s back! The Nets have re-signed @dayron_sharpe to a multi-year contract.

Day’Ron Sharpe may technically have had his free agent rights renounced by the Nets, but that’s just paperwork. The big man is coming back to Brooklyn, and he is excited about it. “It feels good to be back in Brooklyn,” Sharpe said during the Nets’ 102-96 summer league loss to Washington on Sunday night. “I feel good to play for Jordi [Fernández], to play for the Brooklyn Nets organization. I got drafted here, it’s always home, so it’s good to be back for the team, for the Brooklyn Nets.”

Erik Slater: By declining to tender Day'Ron Sharpe and Ziaire Williams qualifying offers and then signing both to contracts with $6M salaries, the Nets created over $18M in additional cap space. Brooklyn can still get to over $40M in space by waiving non-guaranteed players.
