While putting up a valiant fight against a vastly superior roster, the Warriors committed 18 giveaways. They threw some passes out of bounds, threw a few to the Knicks and even dribbled them away. Quinten Post had five turnovers, as did Gui Santos. Podziemski committed four. Richard committed two, and the second one was relatively innocuous – until Kerr’s fiery reaction. “I thought (Richard) could have caught the ball,” Kerr said when asked about the incident, which was noted by the NBC telecast crew. “It was a bad pass from BP; BP should have made a good pass, and Will's got a dunk. (Instead) it turns into a five-point swing. I was mad at Will because I thought he could have corralled the ball and not thrown it. I thought he was trying to make an around- the-back pass for a score. I might be wrong, but I from my angle looked like he could have corralled the ball and made a stop.”

The Knicks’ talent — and size — advantage was simply too much to overcome down the stretch. New York rallied in the third and held off Golden State in the fourth to hand the Warriors a 110-107 loss. It was Golden State’s fifth defeat in a row. With the Blazers losing, the Warriors remained a half-game up on Portland for the ninth seed. Brandin Podziemski scored 25 and Gui Santos had 22, while Quinten Post returned from a sore ankle to score 20. Jalen Brunson put up a game-high 30 points for the Knicks.

Andscape’s NBA insider Marc J. Spears joined 95.7 The Game’s "Willard and Dibs" and shared insight from a recent conversation he had with Curry about the Warriors’ current roster and future outlook. "He wants to play this season, he wants to play in the postseason," Spears said. "Does he have championship aspirations? I think he's realistic about that. He mentioned to me that Jimmy Butler is not going to be there. But, he obviously must like [Brandin] Podzemski, Gui [Santos], some of the young guys on the team, [Moses] Moody."

Gui Santos’ emergence this season has been one of the best stories of the Warriors and the entire NBA. All the work Santos has put in since being selected by Golden State in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft was rewarded Saturday by the Warriors with a multi-year contract extension. While the Warriors didn’t announce details of the deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, citing sources, that Santos signed a three-year, $15 million contract with a player option for the 2028-29 NBA season. “Happy for Gui, and happy for us,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Saturday during his pregame press conference. “He’s been such an important player for us, but also just an incredible development story. Second-round pick and spent his entire first year in Santa Cruz. … He’s become one of our most important players. We’re all so thrilled for him. He’s excited, it’s a great day.”

Disguising his tone the best he could, Santos told his parents he had something serious to talk about. Life is good for Santos. He doesn’t get in trouble off the court, has been enjoying the best season of his young NBA career and got engaged over the summer. “They were very excited, emotional,” Santos said. “More than anybody, they know how tough it was for me to make it here. Just to have that call, I was kind of serious, like, ‘Dad, mom, I got something serious to talk about to you guys.’ And they thought I got my fiancé pregnant.”

“I was kind of serious,” Santos said after scoring 14 points in Saturday’s 129-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. “Like ‘Dad, Mom, I’ve got something serious to talk to you guys (about). And they thought that I got my fiancée pregnant.” Santos’ girlfriend wasn’t pregnant, but he did take a huge step in his life. That’s because his contract extension signing Saturday continues to reveal a new generation of young Brazilian players who can also carve their path in the league. ESPN initially reported that the deal was for $15 million, and a team source confirmed that the final year of the deal is a player option for Santos.

Anthony Slater: Gui Santos has scored double digits in 11 of past 12 games. Averaging 31 minutes per game this month. Warriors lock up a rotation wing for three years before he hits restricted free agency.

Will Richard scored 21 points, Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II added 19 apiece and the Golden State Warriors routed the Memphis Grizzlies 133-112 on Wednesday night in a game between two teams depleted by injuries. Gui Santos added 17 points as eight of the nine Golden State players who saw action reached double figures. The ninth player, Malevy Leons, had nine points.

Anthony Slater: Al Horford is sitting tonight on the second night of a back-to-back vs Raptors. Draymond Green, Will Richard and Gui Santos are all questionable for the Warriors in their first game after the Jimmy Butler ACL tear.

Danny Emerman: Gui Santos (ankle) will be out tomorrow, vs Charlotte, per Steve Kerr, but Warriors don’t anticipate it being a long-term absence.

Gui Santos: When I got here in the G League, I thought that I have to make like 30 points and 10 rebounds to go to the NBA. But the coaches came to me said, “You don't need to do any of that. I we just need you to play hard. We need you to play good defense. We need you to space the floor and make quick decisions. That's what gonna make you go to the NBA. I was like one of the last options in offense. Not because I was not good enough to be there, but because they were teaching me how to play a way that I will play if I go up to Golden State. And I was like, "Okay, I'm going to trust you guys. I'm going to start doing everything that you guys ask me to do."

Nick Friedell: Steve Kerr said he wanted to see Gui Santos get some more minutes in the rotation. Kerr said he wanted to keep his conversations, and how Jonathan Kuminga took being told he was coming out of the rotation, private.
