Sam Amick on Cavaliers: They're the only second apron team in the league. My understanding is that the De’Andre Hunter deal, the three-team trade with the Kings and the Bulls, essentially the amount that they need to get out of the apron and to be able to do some of this stuff, that cut off about a third of it and they still have a ways to go and I don't I've not crunched all the numbers but if you find a new home for Jarrett Allen and get that salary off your books which that is something that would be appealing to a lot of teams out there, then it opens up these possibilities. Yes. you know, first and foremost, the the idea of them jumping into the Giannis sweep stakes, which is very unlikely given everything we're kind of laying out, but Giannis is one of those players that if you have any chance to go after him, you do. If it's not Giannis, I didn't write this part last night, but like they've shown interest in Domantas Sabonis in the past. I think doing something like that, is on their board, but it's just really tough to get there.

While Cleveland has won eight of its last 10 games — nothing to sneeze at, to be sure — the fact remains that the Cavs hovered around the .500 mark (22-19) when the halfway point of the season hit. Their second-apron status has been well chronicled, but league sources say they’ve explored ways of trading the contract of big man Jarrett Allen ($90.7 million combined in the next three seasons) as a way of unlocking much bigger possibilities.

NBA Communications: Other nominees… West: Luka Dončić (LAL), Kevin Durant (HOU), Anthony Edwards (MIN), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) and Kawhi Leonard (LAC) East: Jarrett Allen (CLE), OG Anunoby and Josh Hart (NYK), Cade Cunningham (DET), Joel Embiid (PHI) and Aaron Nesmith (IND)

Duane Rankin: Jordan Ott said Jalen Green's right hamstring came out good, but Green did take hard fall on his hip on that play he got tangled up with Jarrett Allen. Suns calling It a hip contusion. Green was working his left hip on the sideline. Said the hip will be sore. Green won't be available for media after the game due to the hip contusion, per Suns. #Suns

The Cavs have received offers for swingman De’Andre Hunter — last year’s deadline prize who is in the midst of one of the worst statistical seasons of his career and keeps trying to adapt to a midseason role change. There remains strong interest in free-agent-to-be Dean Wade. Opposing teams have also been wondering if Cleveland has any appetite for breaking up the Core 4 — Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. To this point, Cavs decision-makers have made it clear they aren’t interested in a drastic shake-up. They still think highly of this group and see a pathway back to the top of the wide-open Eastern Conference. They also want to evaluate this roster closer to full strength, believing their prospective rotation — with Garland getting closer to returning from a minor toe injury, the emergence of second-year forward Jaylon Tyson and Max Strus’ eventual comeback from offseason foot surgery — stacks up with anyone in the East.

Amid an underwhelming start to the season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, rival executives have poked around to see if the franchise would consider trading Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and even shooting their shot for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, which the Cavaliers have rebuffed to this point, league sources told HoopsHype.

With max contracts being paid to Mitchell and Evan Mobley and the Cavaliers above the second apron, rival executives will continue to gauge Cleveland’s appetite for the possibility of changes – particularly on Garland and Allen – if the team continues to underperform due to the roster’s salary books.

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs have added Jaylon Tyson (illness) to the injury report for tonight’s game against the Pacers. He’s questionable. Dean Wade (knee) and Jarrett Allen (illness) have both been upgraded to probable.

Duane Rankin: Suns big Mark Williams on one-game suspension for dust up with Jose Alvarado in win over Pelicans: "I don't know what I'm supposed to do in that situation. He grabbed me, pushed me. I don't think what I got is just. I'll appeal it, but it's over, we're past it." On facing bigs Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in Suns loss to Cavs: "Just trying to balance the guards are getting downhill, when they're passing vs. when they're going up. They got a couple of easy drop offs. I think that got them going."

Danny Cunningham: #Cavs beat the Spurs 113-101 in what's easily their best win of the season. Don't think they could've drawn up a better response to Saturday's loss. As complete an effort, even if it wasn't the best basketball, as they've had all season.

Oh No He Didn't: John Wall on the Cavs: "I think they gotta make a big change. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland are just not getting along in that backcourt and I think with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley they're just too soft"
