Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21 points, Jalen Johnson had 19 points and 14 rebounds and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Boston Celtics 117-106 on Wednesday night to avenge a lopsided home loss. Onyeka Okongwu added 17 points, Dyson Daniels had 15 and Corey Kispert 13 to help the Hawks win their fourth straight.

Roland Beech: Post Trae Young, what are the Hawks? Over a 6-game sample of recent games... • 7 players with 85+ RHP is decent • Inconsistent Playing Hard/Physicality • Solid core: Johnson / Daniels / Alexander-Walker players to believe in, but still 'works in progress'

Crazy Stats: So far this season, Nickeil Alexander-Walker has the biggest points-per-game increase from last season (among qualified players). Alexander-Walker increased his scoring average by 11.2 points. Deni Avdija has the second-highest jump, +9.1. ....the biggest points-per-game decrease belongs to Guerschon Yabusele, -7.7.

The Hawks, according to conversations with rival executives, agents and former players, are unsure of the long-term prospects of Onyeka Okongwu and Mo Gueye at center from a contention standpoint. Atlanta is an average defensive team (16th in defensive rating, per Cleaning the Glass), but a core featuring Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Johnson and Davis has enough versatility and optionality to rewrite a narrative that would have been otherwise impossible with Young as the centerpiece.

Shams Charania: Trae Young's Hawks tenure is coming to an end. He appears to be in his final days and weeks in Atlanta after seven-plus seasons together as the face of that franchise. I'm told both Trae Young and the Hawks know he just doesn't fit with the current team anymore. We've seen the Hawks move and turn the page toward this young core of Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, so both sides are collaborating on trade talks out of Atlanta, turn the page, seeing where else Trae Young can land to be the lead guard of a franchise elsewhere. And this really started in the offseason when the Hawks decided not to offer Young a contract extension, and now, Young is seeking a team that could give him an extension. This has also stemmed from the fact that the Hawks have played better this season without Young in the lineup. So between now and the trade deadline, the Hawks can either move Young, they can wait for his contract to turn into an expiring deal this offseason when he has a player option, or he opts out, and gives Atlanta $40 million in cap space. But Trae Young appears to be nearing the end of his career in Atlanta.

Ryan Eichtan: NAW said he's incredibly grateful for his time in Minnesota, mentioning teammates who, like him, became fathers during the past couple seasons He reminisced about racing home after a game in Denver on a Spirit flight for the birth of his son in 2014. Coincidentally, his first game back as a new Dad came against the Hawks

With Atlanta leading by a point and inbounding from midcourt, Philadelphia was forced to foul. Nickeil Alexander-Walker received the inbounds pass, but his momentum carried him into the backcourt. Immediately, Sixers announcers Kate Scott and Alaa Abdelnaby started calling for a backcourt violation. However, none was given. Alexander-Walker made both free throws and the Hawks held on for a 120-117 victory. Philadelphia was unable to challenge the play.

Well, the official NBA Referees social media account got wind of Abdelnaby’s apoplectic response to the call on the floor, because it dedicated a post on X to the Sixers analyst, saying that he was wrong and the game officials were right.
This was not a backcourt violation and has never been a backcourt violation.

For those calling the game, there is a responsibility to know the NBA rules and explain them correctly in order to properly educate the fans @alaatweets
