The Dallas Mavericks partly own the American Airlines Center, where they play their games in the Victory Park development just north of downtown. Now he is changing his tune. “Cuban probably wants to imitate what has worked, have the ownership control he doesn’t have in Victory Park, and push it to a new level with casino and resort integration,” said Robert Sroka, a professor of sport administration at Georgia State University and a sport venue development consultant.

“Given the high popularity of NBA in China, perhaps over time this conflict could soften,” said Maria Repnikova, an assistant professor at Georgia State and author of the book Media Politics in China: Improvising Power under Authoritarianism. The key words are “this conflict,” which doesn’t apply to the next one or the one after that. Repnikova notes that Morey’s tweet came at a particularly sensitive time in U.S.-China relations. Besides the conflict in Hong Kong, China is engaged in a trade war with the U.S. that’s led to global economic anxiety. Against that backdrop, Repnikova told USA TODAY Sports that China’s reaction to Morey’s tweet can be viewed as a warning shot to others – a “signaling mechanism for other U.S. companies and entities to practice more caution in discussing China's politically sensitive issues publicly.”

The two wound up with the same agency and the same team — Hunter selected 28th by the Celtics in the Draft, Lee traded there from the Golden State Warriors this offseason. Lee was happy to oblige. “He’s an unbelievable kid,” Lee told Basketball Insiders. “Obviously his dad was a coach (Georgia State University head coach Ron Hunter) and he knows a lot about the game. But more than anything, off the court he’s a great guy. He’s a player with a lot of potential, really has his head on straight and his work ethic is tremendous. From that standpoint, it’s really easy to be friends with him.”
