Jody Genessy: It's official: The Utah Jazz have recalled their D-League team from Boise, Idaho. The Idaho Stampede is now the Salt Lake City Stars.
General manager Dennis Lindsey and team president Randy Rigby will travel to Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday morning to make what a press release forwarded from the Utah Jazz described as a "major announcement" regarding the future of basketball in Treasure Valley. In other words, the Jazz and Idaho Stampede are finally going to announce what has previously been reported: They're joining together in an exclusive one-on-one affiliation.

At this point, Murphy has done basically all he can do to earn a 10-day contract in the NBA. He hopes to continue winning in Boise for the time being, but the obvious goal is to earn another chance in the NBA. “Right now it’s just a waiting game basically, just waiting for the call,” said Murphy. “All I need is one team to like me. I’m just trying to wait for the opportunity.”

First, Claver commented on being back in Boise, the site of his NBA D-League assignments last season, ”Well, it’s different because last season when I came it was a different situation, now this is more what I’m used to, I feel more comfortable now.”

Another day brought another injury for the hard-luck Trail Blazers. Backup center Meyers Leonard suffered a strained right foot during the Blazers’ 104-98 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night and was forced to sit out Thursday’s practice. Leonard is expected to travel with the Blazers to Boise, where they will play the Utah Jazz Friday in an exhibition game, but he’s listed as questionable.

Idaho Stampede Managing Investor Bill Ilett joined KTIK Radio 93.1 FM in Boise to discuss a recent Idaho Statesman article in which he expressed some frustration with his D-League team's play and his relationship with the Portland Trail Blazers, who serve as a parent club under a "hybrid" relationship. That deal, new for this season, allows the Blazers to run basketball operations while the Stampede's ownership group runs business operations.
CSNNW.com was able to reach Trail Blazers' General Manager, Neil Olshey regarding the matter. "Joel and Victor traveled to Boise with Jay Triano, had great attitudes and expressed their excitement to him about the opportunity to play", Olshey said. "I spoke with Joel this morning and he enjoyed the experience last night and was glad to be back on the floor playing basketball. "We will continue to utilize the Idaho Stampede whenever we feel the development of our players will be accelerated by the opportunity to play game minutes in a competitive setting."
