TheOldManAndTheThree: “These people were friends. They were family members. They were parents … their lives are just taken from them. It’s sad and it hurts” -- Cam Johnson speaks on the acts of violence in Minneapolis and the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti

David Adelman couldn’t make sense of what he was watching, but he could make out the neighborhood. Minneapolis was his first NBA home. He knew the city well. Just not in this ravaged state. “That’s a great community of people,” the first-year head coach of the Nuggets said. “I lived there for five years. And it was just so weird to see exactly where it was in the city, because I knew exactly where it was. And from the drone shot, it looked like a war zone. And that’s the country we live in.”
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Back then, we didn’t have cameras in every pocket. We had each other’s testimony. We had the bodies. We had the burned buildings, the charred remains of rage and fear. The truth was written into the world around us. That’s the thread connecting 1968 to Minneapolis today. When you demand accountability, the system tries to turn you into the problem. Institutions question your motives, your patriotism, even your right to speak. It’s a distraction, a smokescreen. (Or, in this case, a gas screen.) Because nothing says “law and order” like hurling pepper spray and noxious gas, and refusing to investigate your own questionable or downright illegal actions."

Tom Osborn: Victor Wembanyama to reporters today on the killing of two Minneapolis citizens by federal agents: "Every day I wake up and see the news and I'm horrified. I think it is crazy that some people make it sound like it's acceptable, like the murder of civilians is acceptable."

Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox is questioning why an investigation hasn't been launched into the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old Minneapolis man by federal officers. "At the very least" there should be an investigation, he said. The officers killed Alex Pretti, an intensive care unit nurse on Saturday, amid widespread protests after the Jan. 7 shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good, who was killed when an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fired into her vehicle as she drove away from a group of officers following a confrontation.

“There's a lot of heavy hearts and a lot of things especially this Minneapolis community,” Stephen Curry told reporters at Target Center after a 111-85 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. “Yesterday was rough. It's been rough I know out here, and I you can kind of feel it when we got here two days ago. The protests that were going on downtown. “It was amazing to watch the turn out and peaceful protests and the unified voice that was here. And you feel like that what kind of turn the tide of you know to a more positive direction.”

Danny Emerman: Steph Curry could see Minneapolis protests through his hotel window the past couple days. Said he was glued to the TV yesterday. "3 straight hours in -10 degree weather. It was beautiful to see that turnout. Speaks to how important people felt it was to have their voice heard. There's a lot of change that needs to happen. And when you're here and you feel it — I was glued to the TV yesterday when we weren't playing, just watching the coverage and learning what was going on, trying to get knowledgeable about it."

Andrew Dukowitz: Julius Randle on how the turmoil in Minnesota and Minneapolis has affected him “Regardless of politics, there’s a human aspect to it, for me I have kids, I have family, for me the job as a man is to be the protector of the house. You see things like that and obviously, it’s tough, it’s hard to stomach things like that… regardless of whatever’s going on, when somebody lose their life, you never want to see that. From the minute I’ve been here, Minneapolis has been great for me, fans and community have been really behind me. Everybody, neighbors, the community I live in, the school my son goes to, just everything, it’s been nothing but a joy since I been here so(pauses) it’s tough”

Maxime Aubin: Asked by the great @tom_orsborn about the situation in Minneapolis, Mitch Johnson said the team “haven’t discussed it” and called it a “very unfortunate situation.” “Anytime there’s violence that occurs, or it feels like aggressive interaction that may be unnecessary, unwarranted, or unprovoked, or unwanted on either side of two people or groups of people is unfortunate”.
