Ricky Rubio: I was one in Minneapolis because it was the YouTube era. And I had to create that character even though I didn’t want to. I never fell in love with the culture or traditions. For me, the impact the U.S. has, both generally and in basketball—they’ve turned the NBA into a show, into a business. They’ve left behind the love of basketball, and that’s also happening in Europe. So what do I take from the U.S.? What I wouldn’t do—not what I would.
On May 25, 2020, Floyd died in Minneapolis after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd was arrested after allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase cigarettes at a local store. A bystander’s video of Floyd’s arrest went viral, leading to worldwide outrage and protests against police brutality and systemic racism. “It was crazy. I saw a whole bunch of riots. Buildings burned. Stores broken into. I would hope it was because of what they felt,” Reid said.
Five minutes after the final buzzer, Warriors controlling owner Joe Lacob slid into a courtside club down the tunnel of a celebrating Minneapolis arena, complimentary of the home team but more willing than others in his organization to voice what many believed. “Disappointing,” Lacob said, settling into a 10-minute conversation with The Athletic. “I really hoped we could extend the series and I’m …” This is where he paused, understanding his next statement would come off as a discredit to the Timberwolves, but he fired it off anyway. “I am pretty positive that if we had Steph, we’d have won this series,” Lacob said.
Vincent Goodwill: Warriors win 103-89. Buddy Hield with 33, Curry was 22-10 boards, seven assists, Jimmy with 20-8-7. Onto Minneapolis. Game 1, Tuesday night

A sports radio host who tweeted “All lives matter… every single one” shortly after the May 2020 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has lost a federal lawsuit against the company that fired him. Grant Napear, who handled TV play-by-play for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and had his own daily radio show on sports talk KHTK Sacramento (1140), had sued Bonneville International, the station’s owner. But on Monday, the judge overseeing the case, U.S. District Judge Dale Drozd, granted summary judgment for the defendant, saying that Bonneville’s decision to fire Napear was protected by the First Amendment.
Duane Rankin: Bradley Beal made trip to Minneapolis. Out tonight vs. T-Wolves with left hamstring strain. It'll be 6th straight game he's missed. Mike Budenholzer said Tuesday Beal hadn't done 5-on-5 yet. Guys working their way back from injury have done 5-on-5 on the road before. #Suns
Flintco and Mortenson have been hired to build the new Oklahoma City arena following a 7-0 affirmative vote during Tuesday’s city council meeting. The council, which will own the $900M future home of the Thunder, approved a $2.275M contract for pre-construction services with Minneapolis-based Mortenson and its local joint venture partner, Flintco, while the outline of a construction manager at-risk agreement that would provide the construction firm with a 3% fee for CM at-risk duties (i.e., the actual construction of the venue) was also included.
Tom Orsborn: Wemby made the trip to Minneapolis after also attending Friday's game in Sacramento. "I don't know if he's ever been out like this, so I know he's going crazy from not playing," Mitch Johnson said. "Just being in the locker room, being on the bench, being with his teammates means a lot to him."
Chris Hine: The Timberwolves did make it to Charlotte despite the storm back in Minneapolis. They made it to their hotel around 4:30 am. Tonight marks their 5th game in 7 days in their 4th different time zone.

As a kid growing up in a Minneapolis suburb, Tre Jones found himself nearly crazed with anticipation each holiday season. "Most of the times I couldn't wait," the Spurs reserve point guard said, referring to the opening of presents. "I was like, 'Please.' So, my mom would give in and we would do stockings the night before. Then on Christmas morning she would wake up and make breakfast, and once we were finished, I'd pass out all the gifts to everybody's position and we would start opening."
Darren Wolfson: Great work, Jaden McDaniels. He stopped by two Minneapolis schools today to drop off winter essential items. He also donated $$ to purchase additional winter and family items. KAT did a winter coat drive for years, McDaniels now doing so. #Timberwolves #Twolves pic.x.com/xXcawkMWAd
Jonathan Feigen: Rockets center Steven Adams is out in Minneapolis tomorrow. Jalen Green (illness) is questionable. He played with the illness the past two games and sat out practice today. Mike Conley (toe) and Joe Ingles (calf) are questionable for the Timberwolves.
Even before you signed the extension, you have said the Magic organization molded you after drafting you. In what ways did that shape your growth? Jalen Suggs: “Tremendously. You go from high school for a great four years at a place that taught me and really prepared me in the next phases of my life academically and spiritually (Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis). Character-wise, it helped grow me into who Jalen Suggs was as a young man. College was really quick. But Coach [Mark] Few at Gonzaga and all of the boys I had there played a role in getting me through a tough year without family. They became my family, even to this day. "Then you come to Orlando and now this is the place where I’ve been for four years in critical stages of my growth. We’re talking from age 19 to 23. This is the place that I call my home. These are the people that I’ve called my brothers, uncles and OGs. They’re the ones that I’m learning from and creating memories with. This place will always have a special spot in my heart from players, coaches, front office and the fans. There’s ups and downs and good and bad days. I’ve received nothing but love. Every time I walk out the door in Orlando and go out and do anything, I’m receiving love and good energy from the people. So this place has been a blessing, man.”
